Why do people think this is even a possibility?

even Thad Young who I believe played well for the nets, seems like a decent "small ball" SF/PF

SA would be thrilled if a team offered him. He is restricted which means they would match the sheet and sign him for 4 years (instead of the 5 he can get for signing with SA directly) plus raises of 4.5 % (vs the 7.5% he would get directly). In fact, I would say that Kawhi would reject any offers from other teams trying to sign him (or the very least his agent would).

Easy... If San Antonio wants Aldridge bad, then they need the cap space to get him. In order for that to happen, they must get the offer in before Leonard is signed, then resign Leonard. If a team signs an offer sheet first, then SAS doesn't have the cap space to offer Aldridge or any max free agent for that matter. The choice would need to be, match and stay the same and be older, or let go and get the free agent we want.

If they aren't in the hunt for max free agents.

Of course this is a pipe dream, but sending the offer right away would completely cut out SAS as a player for any max free agent.

I don't believe it would. They have a cap hold on Kawhi until his new contract is official. And the hold isn't max. It is something like 8 MIL. So it only takes them out of the running for a max free agent if the free agent waits until July 12th to want to sign for them. Because no contracts can be signed until July 9th. They can agree to it in principal but no signing. So 3 days from July 9th is the 12th.

Even if the Spurs want LMA I can guarantee you that they want Kawhi more. Kawhi is a better player than LMA, and plays a position that's in higher demand. Why on earth would they let go their own, better player to sign a guy who is worse and plays a position that's always been the easiest to fill?

Trade Kaman for Wilson Chandler... Or sign Aminu. Dream summer for me though, Keep Lamarcus add Monroe and Aminu.

PG Lillard / CJ / Frazier
    SG Henderson / CJ/ Crabbe
    SF Aminu / Crabbe
PF Aldridge / Leonard / Vonleh
    C Monroe / Plumlee / Leonard

Given all that we know about Olshey, he likes to go after guys who can potentially blow up, rather than guys who have already reached their potential. That screams Crowder to me.

PER36 with BOS last season: 14,10, 2, 1.5, and becoming an increasingly better shooter while being solid on D.

Dude is a built like a tank at 6'7, 240. He's Wes Matthews but taller.

And I bet he could be had for cheaper even if he's a RFA.

another thought is to try to get Harrison Barnes from GS as they are already over the cap and need to pay Draymond Green a likely max deal. Anyone think it worth it to take on David Lee's expiring to get Barnes?

This would seem like a deal to do if LMA is not coming back

That's what I'm saying. Doing this would take them in the running for Aldridge. SAS would most likely match, unless they view Aldridge as more valuable. Either way, it's win win for us because we would either get Leonard or take the #1 team that would steal Aldridge away from us.

That is ONLY presuming the big name free agent SA wants decides to wait and not sign on the first or 2nd day. LMA may wait for us (but he may not - don't pretend we know 100%). Honestly, you see most big name free agents sign the very first day they can.

Aminu is my guess. He or whoever is the best shooter

He will be the second cheapest option besides Aminu. And I agree he is a big time target. But the RFA might give Olshey pause. If he was unrestricted then I think it is almost a slam dunk that he would be on the team. But he isn't so I think Aminu is more likely (if only slightly).
