There are several things wrong with this idea, which theoretically looks good:
    1. Kawhi has to be willing to sabotage the Spurs off-season plans by signing that offer sheet, we can offer anything we want but unless he signs it there is nothing we can do.
    2. A poison pill contract generally refers to early bird rights players, see the contracts Houston offered Asik and Lin with their 15 million year three. It can also be used to when offering a decent player well above market value in hopes of signing him or making the home team overpay. Kawhi is getting a max deal. A 4 year deal with someone else would be a bargain thanks to the raise cap at 4.5% vs 7.5% the Spurs can offer.
    3. We need cap space to sign him, in order to get that cap space we would need to renounce the rights to Lopez, Afflalo, Matthews, and Wright and not extend a qualify offer to Freeland. By doing so we then lose our right to go over the cap to resign them. Yes we could keep LA's Bird Rights so if it had any chance of success then it would be worth it.

Its a good idea but ultimately not one that will pan out.

I would definitely submit the highest offer possible to Leonard. who knows, maybe Leonard signs, and if he rejects, it really cost us a day. If he accepts, then SAS is out of the running and it benefits us

We will be renouncing all those players you just used anyway. Not like that matters.

If spelling, typing, and grammar were requirements to post here, Denny would be having conversations with himself. Welcome, and good first post.

Here's how you can fuck SAS. Offer Leonard max for 3 years, with a player option for the third year. I think Leonard would consider that because the cap will increase drastically. If he signs, that would fuck SAS because they couldn't lock up Leonard for more than 2 years.

For us, we could offer an additional 20% in the third year and sign, waits another year for mega max, or free up enough cap to give him mega max.

You have to remember we can make the offer, Leonard would still have to sign the offer sheet. So here really would have to want to comer here and Fuck the Spurs himself.

If the Spurs want him max for 5 years, but Leonard wants 3 years with a PO in the third, that's actually good business. You can get creative and give him something he would consider. Regardless, sending the offer has nothing to lose. If he doesn't sign, it really doesn't hurt us one bit

He's not a star by any means, but the guy has had a pretty solid career I think.

I think Minne would have been overpayng him. He's vet depth. He would have made no sense in that Minne team.

Pops is the best coach to ever coach the game. Yes, Duncan is the best PF to ever play the game, but they didn't have the star power like Lakers, NY, or whomever in the large markets to give their coaches a leg up. His championships are all valid and earned. Gotta respect that

A team other than the Spurs can only offer at least a 3 year deal with no options for those 3. Can have an option for year 4.

Same deal here as with Jimmy Butler.

Do the NBA rules allow for having 2 Leonards on a roster? Someone look into that....
