And that tweet is from 4 days ago Sports Whispers @SportsWhispers Jun 26 Pacers trying to find a 3rd team to complete a trade that would send David Lee to Indiana, Hibbert to a 3rd team & salary relief to GS Sports Whispers @SportsWhispers Jun 25 #Blazers and #Pacers discussing a Roy Hibbert trade
I agree, Lopez is a better player right now than Hibbert, and wouldn't cost 15 million. Hibbert is just a name some people get excited about because he had a good series one time.
Henderson and Kaman to GS Hibbert to Portland Lee to Indiana Not for sure if we can somehow put Luke Ridnour in the trade.
I read hibbert has an additional $2.3million trade kicker. does the acquiring team have to absorb the additional cap hit?
Hibbert's current contract is 15 million. And I don't see why Lopez is suddenly such an hot item. He's basically the same player he's always been, and we got him for scraps last year.
It is applied to the cap. The bonus is divided evenly among the years of the contract. $5M kicker, 5 year contract adds $1M per year to his cap hit. The $1M is true for a team receiving him in trade.
That does seem to make sense. Taking for granted that Indiana wants/is okay with Lee since they're presumably pursuing this, Portland gets a good big man on a one-year deal and Golden State gets immediate cap relief (releasing Kaman's non-guaranteed contract) and Henderson on a one-year deal (it's been mentioned that Golden State doesn't want to add salary beyond next year in return for Lee).
It's for one year. Lopez would make at least 8 mil per, because what's going around the league. Most likely it will be at least 4 years 36 mil. Last time I checked 36 mil is more than 15
Seems like a no-brainer rental for a year at the very least if that is the price that gets it done. However, this basically guarantees that GS gets to keep Drymond Green. So in a sense we are helping them the most.
They can keep Green regardless of whether they dump Lee. Dropping salary is to avoid a gigantic luxury tax bill (one that Warriors' owner Joe Lacob said he will pay if necessary, but would prefer not to especially considering Lee would like to start somewhere else).
