I'm really having trouble understanding in the end what causes LA to leave. He leaves $28MM on the table, he heads to likely a worse team, he diminishes his legacy by losing his chances at the top spots on the franchise list and if he's interested in the HOF (which would demand another three-five plus years of All Star performances IMO), staying with one team with the same role increases his chances.

And I've made this point before, but he has no idea how good he has it here. Win or lose, we love our Blazers. They're the only game in town. He goes to the Spurs and they win less than 50 games, the long knives are out. If he goes to the Rockets or L*kers, he's not going to be the face of the franchise.

He would really have to hate it here to give all of that up.

And according to reports, he does.

Which is why the fact that he's taking SEVEN meetings is a slap in the face of everything this city and franchise has given him. He's burning bridges with the fans, the front office, and his teammates (think Dame appreciates this fiasco?)

Even if he comes back to us with his tail between his legs, he will have some work to do to earn some trust again.

Stuff you guys have all been told and refused to believe because no one believes people can have friends with knowledge of anything.

    Aldridge does not like Portland
Aldridge does not like constantly being second or third fiddle to someone else on team.
Aldridge has been here many year and we have yet to come close to a title.
He needs to see and feel the love.
He may stay but it will be for the money, not for ANY other reason he may say to the media

I don't see anything wrong with a FREE AGENT meeting with other teams. It's his right. Now if in the end he wants to leave, all I gotta say is peace. There's no point in wasting energy being angry. He moves on, we move on.

Weird cuz he would be third fiddle in SAS, second or maybe third in LA, third in Houston. Only Dallas would be the spot I see him as the main cog

All of the nonsense that Batum's agent said during the Minnesota fiasco was forgiven pretty quickly.

I have no problem with LA visiting with teams. Look at it like you would buying a car. Even if your last car was dependable and the dealership treated you right, do you not still research and test drive other cars?

What aldridge fails to realize (if this is true) is that a team will never win a championship with him as their main guy. He's robin, not batman. If he goes to San Antonio then he'll be living in Duncan's shadow and when Duncan retires, good luck trying to fill those shoes. As for LA, that'll always be Kobe's team. And when kobe retires they'll find someone more marketable than aldridge.

Whats interesting about this, in Houston he'd be a 2nd fiddle. In LA he'd be a 2nd fiddle. In NY he'd be a 2nd fiddle.

In San Antonio there is no real "fiddle", it's a team effort.

And in reality, none of those teams are marketably closer to a title than Portland would be (if he re-signs) outside of Houston. And to get on Houston, the Rockets would have to get rid of a significant amount of players to get under the cap enough to sign him.

Its different. I think he feels Portland should be showing him that love. We gave continually chose to vat players over him as the face of the franchise, and he resents that.

That was supposed to go into the Lillard thread.

    Like Russell?

Nick Young alone should take the Lakers out of the Aldridge sweepstakes.

I would hate to see him 4x a year with the Spurs. I wouldn't mind him being in Dallas or L.A.

Clyde is already dead to me.

    I hope LaMarcus isn't next.

well, he doesn't exactly put himself out there often. He's Mr Private/wants to be in Dallas anyways. So, that sounds like a bogus reason.

The only way I could embrace LMA again is if he came back to the Blazers and let it be known that he was just screwing with all the other teams so they wouldn't be able to get the free agents they really needed and just to mess up their planning in general. I know that isn't what he's doing but there is this sappy part of me that wishes it was.

I'm sure he doesn't like Portland.
Nowhere he's looking would he be first fiddle.
At some point in time, LA has to put that record of lack of playoff success on him.
He needs to put himself out there if he wants to "feel the love". People certainly don't dislike him.
If he does stay, I suspect it will be for the money. And I don't really care why he stays, only that he does.

Even if he did that, there is no way in hell that he would admit it
