I don't give a rats ass what those stats say Prod. I watched all the games. Klein was the best defenseman on the team easy before he got hurt. Boyle sucked all year. Stats like that are useless. Klein is playing against the other teams best lines. Boyle is playing against rejects. Those stats never take that into account. Stat geeks are a moronic crew that need to be eliminated in pro sports. The top 4 defenseman on each team play against the best players. They are going to turn the puck over more. Rejects like Boyle play against checking lines. Those stats mean jack shit.
The only stat I mentioned is turnovers per game, I'm not throwing corsi or fenwick or all that other hocus pocus bullshit out there. You called Boyle a turnover machine and I decided to see if his actual turnover numbers backed that up because I didn't remember that being the case. There are a lot of things you can say about Boyle but I don't think turnover machine is one of them.
They aren't trading any of the dmen, nor should they as there is no replacement for Klein or Yandle and the qualities each bring. I understand the concerns with Boyle but he wasn't horrible and can be alternated with Diaz as the 6th which is pretty solid. Skjei probably needs a full year in the A and who knows with McIlrath i'm not holding my breath there. If they need to clear another 2-3m trade Fast/D.Moore together, but i don't even see this happening.
I disagree with you 71. I would not deal Fast unless it directly leads to me adding a legit top 6 R shot winger, which is HIGHLY doubtful. I'm also not sure what you do with all these dmen if you don't deal any. McIlrath needs to clear waivers to be sent down, so do you just let him get claimed? Do you keep him here as the 8th dman (not happening)? Do you send Diaz down, a dman you just signed (unlikely)? So to me I still 100% believe a dman trade is coming due to sheer numbers AND a need at forward. I also am excited to see what Yandle can do over a full season here. I know the new thing in here is to dismiss him as bad for some odd reason, but 50 + point dmen do not grow on trees. I fully expect him to be very good for us next season. And BTW...he went to the WCF with Zona a few years back as a top dman. He went to the ECF with us this past season. So it isn't like the guy has never been on teams that win...so let's not act as if Zona was awful every season so no one cared what Yandle did.
You don't know what Yandle or Klein would bring back. So there could be a replacement. Yandle is a 50 point defense. That's great. He's also not great defensively. Then again, how many teams really don't have 2-3 defenseman that are not great defensively. Most of the top guys end up playing 30 minutes a game in the playoffs on defense.
Viktor Stalberg, Raphael Diaz and Jayson Megna all signed one-way deal with the Rangers on Wednesday. (Andrew Gross) Stalberg’s deal is worth $1.1 million, Diaz is worth $700,000 and Megna’s is worth $600,00. (Andrew Gross) A one-way contract does not preclude a team from placing that player on waivers and sending the player to Hartford. If a player on a one-way deal is sent to Hartford he receives the same salary that he would at the NHL level. Diaz and Megna could both be sent down to the AHL with no impact to the Rangers salary cap while if Stalberg were to be sent down, the Rangers have have a charge of $175,000 because his salary is over $925,000.
With 8 dmen here I still think one gets dealt for the forward we badly need (or dealt to clear space to sign the forward we badly need). McIlrath cannot be sent down without clearing waivers, which he wouldn't clear, so not getting sent down IMO. And while Diaz can go down with no cap implications, I just don't see him being sent down to start. I doubt he signs here if he was told you might be in the minors, I don't see it happening.
I expect Klein to be moved to bring back a forward or to package w Glass to free up cap space and get picks. Way too many Defensemen and cap space tied up
I don't see them dealing Klein for picks UNLESS there is another move made in combo to add a top 6 winger. Like I don't see them flipping Klein for picks to open a spot for McIlrath and then calling it a day. Klein only gets moved IMO if we are adding a top 6 winger either in his deal or in another combo deal. I can see them flipping McIlrath for a pick if they decide to keep Klein. I do think more moves are coming though...I really do.
There will be some more moves so folks need to just calm down. Plus, can't be so reactionary to what ever other team does. First, they're allowed to try and improve themselves also. Second, it doesn't mean the Rangers aren't trying. A lot of factors go into where players sign. Not to mention the cap it right for the Rangers. Lastly, some of the moves these other teams make aren't all going to pan out.
I actually think it has been pretty calm in here Mess. I don't see many overreacting. Calling out other teams getting better and maybe passing us on paper doesn't mean someone is going over the top. I happen to think the Caps and BJ's are better teams than we are right now, but we still have time to improve, and I think we will. If we are sitting here with this lineup to start the season, or even in a few weeks, I will get worked up, but right now I am taking it in stride and we'll see how it plays out. Like I have been saying, moving a dman has to happen IMO. The numbers just don't make sense as is.
Somebody will be traded. They have a need and they have some value in contracts that will be expiring. It's better to make the right move instead of just making a move.
Agreed Mess. And it is interesting that the Caps series was a 100% coin flip, they added Oshie and Williams, we lost MSL and Hags, and honestly haven't added anyone of great value yet, but it is crazy to say the Caps are better. Interesting...LOL. Agree to disagree...right now I would favor them over us. Still a long way to go until the season though.
You have to factor in increased productivity of players on the rosters as well. You can't just do add and subtract and say one team is better than the other.
Chuck I'm saying they would trade Klein for picks if they sign a UFA...either way they need cap space if the sign or trade for a top 6. Everyone likes Klein but you can't pay a 3rd pair 3m a year when you don't have enough depth scoring in top 6. Plus I think we would sell high on him he won't produce offensively again like 2 years ago. Jackets just signed Saad 6 year ext no terms. He's a Kreider clone w more points but plays w topend guys Kane and Toews
