+> Sam Cassell and his co alien Avery Johnson. The head alien is no doubt Dennis Rodman. Hidden within many Euro players are a few as well. These guys are attracted to orange orbs.

Cute or not, its true. Draft picks is how we will ever compete. Either a team built through the draft, like the 90's, or through trading picks and young players acquired through the draft like the 2000's teams

Look at our current roster bro.

    Dame #6 (we traded for)
Leonard #10 (Our actual draft pick)
Von #9 ( we traded for)
CJ #11 ( our actual draft pick)
    Plumlee #22 (we traded for)

We have that "rebuild" through trades already. We could easily keep doing the same thing and get the same results.

You gotta really suck to get a chance for a "franchise" player through the draft. Must be a top 5 pick. I don't think we will suck that bad, even if we keep the same team.

1998. We came from a year, making the playoffs and losing in the first round, lost our pick from a trade and made it to the WCF the following season. The season of 1999, we had one of the lowest payrolls in the league.

2006. Came off a decent year, having only a 3.5% of winning the lotto. Won the #1 pick.

2007. The pick we traded for was 1 number off from getting Derek Rose. This on a year we were 4th seed.

2013. Felton, crawchuck and Aldridge having one of the worst years. We traded Wallace for the #6 pick. We had no cap space and no youth.

None of these are examples on how we tanked to get these picks

So? The picks were still able to be had from trades.

    Who said the word tank?

Just saying Portland has to build through the draft, not FA

I don't want to focus too much about us or about the other ways available because we are drifting away from my initial point.

Olshey drafted Deandre Jordan at the #35 pick and Bledsoe was selected #18 by OKC but Neil got him for a protected draft pick.
Don't forget about Terry Porter getting picked at #24 too.

It's not like i'm against the draft, i just don't think that you MUST tank in order to rebuild.

Picks can and have been traded for without using picks.

I like Olsheys approach of getting high draft picks from shitty teams the year after they are drafted. I think it's better than tanking for the lottery

I am not arguing this, but other than Sheed, i cant think of time this strategy has worked. Any examples i am missing where teams gave up young studs and regretted it?
