But the bottom line is....not unloading them in the next two days will not be an indicator whether or not they are matching. Their inactivity will mean nothing. That is what I was wondering about. He has time to be creative.

I'm guessing Indiana actually showed him the money, whereas OKC showed Kanter less money than we did. Now they have to put up or shut up.

That'd be so sweet. Ibaka is a good damn player but he is so perfect next to Kanter.

How is this possible? Unless you mean circumventing the CBA?

Edit: late to the party, Denny already schooled y'all

I read somewhere yesterday that OKC offered Kanter 54mil for 4 years..if they match they're going to be paying a fortune in luxury tax

Right, but there are definite (and real) advantages to unloading them within this 3 day period.

It really came down to Olshey going after the best free agent on the table which is exactly what he said he'd do. Talent acquisition for future assets whether you trade them or not. Greg Monroe was first and he's no elite defender by any stretch. The options left after Kanter were Boozer, Mbah Moute, maybe Drew Gooden..Luke Babbit..it's not a pretty sight after that. If OKC matches, it's a smart move to bottle up their cap space.

Whether OKC matches or not, I'm pretty sure Olshey already has some trades lined up. He's not just sitting around waiting for the decision.

I'm about 75 posts behind, so apologies if this was answered, but that went out the window once he signed the offer sheet. You specifically can't set up a S&T after an offer sheet to an RFA is signed, or make a trade around it:

It seems to me the offer can be rescinded, if agreed by all 3 parties, then a S&T effected.

Unless we get a lucky draw we're not getting a top 5 pick.

I agree that the offer can be rescinded, but I seem to recall with the Batum thing that even Stern was saying that they have until the offer sheet is at the league office to make a S&T. Once signed, it could only be matched or refused. But if your copy of the CBA (how did you get that? I need one!) shows that rescinding it allows you go get back to "square 1", then fine. But it seems that it would garner a LOT of league scrunity, because of the clauses about not offering compensation for not matching, whether it helps OKC or not.

I can't see us losing more games than the Sixers, Mavs, Lakers, Nuggets and possibly Knicks. We will be one of the worst perhaps but not the worst.

I googled for NBA CBA and found the actual legal document. I've read it before.

Anyhow, there's a difference between rescinding and making a trade versus offering compensation. The former requires consent of all 3 parties, the latter only the teams.

I'm not a lawyer, I just play one on tv.

Qualifying offers, yes. The Bulls offered ben gordon $10m/season and then rescinded the offer while he was a RFA, but he was their FA.

It may have happened, but not that I could find.

the nuggets can swap picks with the knicks next year, gonna be interesting to see how that plays out. NY isnt looking to tank by signing afflalo and rolo though.
