Been working on making my jumper quicker and more compact. Theres spot up 3s then some off the dribble shots later in the video. Any of the great basketball minds on here have tips on any improvements I could make to my form?
Wow you can shoot! Not that I'm an expert, but when you missed, it looked like your legs veered to the left.
You were inconsistent on your jump Your elbow in slightly different position from time to time Arch altered for different shots. Thats what i noticed. If it goes in, it goes in, but those things will cause you to have more slumps than not Not an expert, but have coached for 30 plus years, and have friends in the pizza business that know what thay are talking about that i have learned from.
Thanks for the tips. I've always been a pretty good shooter I'll just have stretches where I never miss. I've been trying to get to the point where I'm consistently "on fire", but that requires tons of work on the little things like you mentioned, which are kinda hard to find.
Thanks! Yeah I think my feet werent turned enough to the left. I turn to line my shoulder, elbow and hip up with the basket and if I don't turn enough I think the whole chain gets messed up and it looks like that.
Fir a rec player or whatever, you are better than ok, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The only other issue with your form is your rack could be bigger, but thats a standard complaint
I signed with a JC a couple months ago and I have hopes to play small D1 or get a D2 scholarship. And I don't quite understand what you mean by a bigger rack.
Then i would work on ball handling too cause your shot comes out low. Youll need space to get it off against any level of college. Just my opinion.
I agree with what your saying. I'm a good enough ballhandler to play SG and maybe some point in a pinch at the JC level but that's only JC, and Ive been working on developing all my guard skills (I played post in high school) I've tried to make my shot quick enough so that my low release doesn't matter. Kinda like what Steph Curry and Damian Lillard do with their shots (Shoulder and elbow parallel to the ground) I actually model parts of my jumper and game after those two, but obviously not on the same level. I'm still getting comfortable with the quick release though, as its hard to shoot fast and keep your form 100% consistent at the same time.
Gotta agree. Your starting point almost looks like you're going to shoot an old school set shot. A defender with quick hands could slap the ball away as you're bringing it up to shoot. But then I haven't played in 40 years....other than that, very good shooting.
I don't understand why this is in the OT forum. You'd be one of the better 3-pt shooters on the Blazers this year.
yeah I'm kinda stuck because raising my set point would make it easier to shoot over people but I feel like it would make my shot slower. Nevertheless, I try to raise it a little today and might post a video to see what yall think.
I honestly believe I could shoot 35% from 3 in the NBA but maybe it's that delusional RGIII "athlete confidence".
Some geezer advice?? See if you can find some video of Jerry West. That guy was amazing at how quickly he could get his shot off. Just a thought...,
I learned to play from his book, "Basketball My Way, by Jerry West." Drills and how to shoot. Find it on amazon.
Your shot looks awkward to me. I think you have great wrist strength and good rotation on the shot. It looks like your arms are different every time because your legs are behind. When you feel mostly square with the hoop you release. I think you got a case of the Tebow going on. You are naturally talented as a shooter. Just have had poor form that hasn't been corrected. I think if you had spent years working on your form and always getting your body right before you let the shot go, and not worrying about making the shots, you'd be deadly. In your case I really don't know what you should do. Work on it and miss shots? Or roll with what you have and maybe some minor tweaks here and there? I'm leaning towards sticking with what you do. I fix cars so take it for what it's worth.
