With these two recent ceremonies of retired numbers I had to bring this up........

    1) Martin - NO - Plaque only
    3) Ruth - YES
    4) Gehrig - YES
    5) DiMaggio - YES
    6) Torre - YES
    7) Mantle - YES
    8) Dickey - YES
    8) Berra - YES
    9) Maris - NO - plaque only
    10) Rizzuto - NO - Plaque only
15 Munson - YES (Because his career was cut short)
    16) Ford - YES
    20) Posada - NO - plaque only
    23) Mattingly - NO - Plaque only
    32) Howard - YES - (broke the NY color barrier)
    37) Stengel - NO - plaque only
    44) Jackson - FUCK NO!!! Plaque only?
    46) Pettitte - NO - plaque only
    49) Guidry - NO - Plaque only
    51) Williams - NO - plaque

Here's my thing with both Guidry & Pettitte,

Pettitte, Red Ruffing went 231-123 as a Yankee in 15 seasons with 4 straight 20 win seasons where he went a combined 82-33. Ruffing has only a plaque.

Guidry, Lefty Gomez went 189-101 over 13 seasons with 173 complete games. Gomez only got a plaque.

    Okay, fire away.

Actually, I think you got it all right Rick, with the exception of Revisions in red font............:devilwink: and You forgot Neon Deion Sanders.....

Deion deserves his own toilet, from all the barfing Fans having to watch His lame ass. I'll never ever forget, when Deion had the worst Batting Avg in both leagues at .158 .... and had the balls to ask for a effing raise......!!!

With all these numbers being retired & plaque's being given out Graig Nettles has to be thinking......."What am I wood"?

11 seasons, 250 HRs, 8 of 11 seasons with 20 or more & helped lead the team to 2 WS.

Ah, I too overlooked 'Nails', Nettles, no doubt a great Thunder Alley player, who often caught lightning in a bottle.......

I met Nettles in 96, when He was here as the Mgr. of the Bakersfield Blaze, A+ Co-op Team........a great guy, humble, definitely not arrogant, and took time to talk, prior to the Team taking the field to warm up.......

I mean if you're giving away plaques like they're candy, Gossage, Martinez, Randolph etc, why not one for Nettles?

...I know I'll take some heat but, Torre, no. He drove a Cadillac for several years...Yanx won in spite of him, not because of him.

...also, Howard ?...No. Let's face it, if he was not black he would not even be considered.

    Howard; .274 .322 .427 .749
    Posada ; .273 .374 .474 .848

Stengel managed the Yankees from 1949 to 1960. His Yankees Teams won 5 consecutive World. Championships. Won the pennant every year but '54 and '59 and two additional Championships, best God Damn Manager that I saw with the Yankees. Joe Torre should have been fired after that disgraceful loss in '04.

Nettles my pick for franchise 3rd Baseman. Clete Boyer was good with the glove but Nettles got it done on both sides. His defensive plays in the '78 and '81 World Series ranked with the very best. Nine is retired via Maris but Nettles wore it also and he deserves his day.

Nettles 78 Series play as a true Thunder Alley Specialist, was very special, and every bit as mind boggling as Brooks Robinson's W.S. gems, or Seasonal gems......well damn close....!!

yeah that is a very good point, simply because he was the Yanx token 1st- black man, shouldn't warrant any exceptions......

although I enjoyed Howard overall as a kid, and was lucky enough to Yep, get his autograph on a 61 Topps; in Kansas City, on a day Elston did not play......

Yogi was in LF, (a position many overlook Yogi ever playing), and Blanchard was behind the plate.......that's a name we don't hear much of, ie, blanchard......

Mattingly wasn't tragically killed, though he may be if his team keeps playing like shit.

I want to be alive to see the first Yankee with the
'triple digit uniform number'. Retiring all these
    numbers is so ridiculous.

    IN THE YEAR 2135..........CF #57 LF #92 RF # 48
    C # 97 1B #88 2B #63 SS # 41 3B # 79 P #96

My guess is that that may do away with numbers.

Honestly after Jeter I don't think we'll see another retired number for many years. Guys like Gardner & Teixeira WAY down the road MAY get a plaque if they end up with decent Yankee numbers.

I will never forget being slammed, time and time again, all week long. On the BSPN baords, when we were talking about this issue, the HOF, et al.. I said, and tried to present a case, that Donnie BB should be in the HOF, IF Kirby fkng Puckett could make it in, so should Donnie, altho' fate would have it, Kirby got a World Series Ring, damn near a pre=requisite, lest some cases, ........there's many HOF'rs who never won a WS; plenty in fact, those many who came close, but lost in Critical Series, that could of gone either way........

No, but his career & productivity were cut short because of injury... If you make an exception for 1 Captain, why not another Captain who was a fan favorite???

Was trying to put a lineup together of retired numbers but realized that we're missing a left fielder & a 3rd baseman. Granted with DiMaggio in CF we could stick Mantle in left since he played around 130 games there in his career. And we could put Torre at 3rd since he played over 500 games there. So this is what I came up with......

    SS - Phil Rizzuto
    C - Yogi Berra
    1B - Lou Gehrig
    RF - Babe Ruth
    LF - Mickey Mantle
    CF - Joe DiMaggio
    DH - Reggie Jackson
    3B - Joe Torre
    2B - Billy Martin

Not a bad lineup, I think we could we a few games here.

Pitchers = Whitey Ford, Ron Guidry & Andy Pettitte.
