To be fair, and I know that's not much of motivator on the web, her divorces reportedly took place before her conversion. That said, please be careful in tossing around cases like this as representative of the views of a majority of Christians. Sure, there are plenty of cake-bakers and others like her with similar views, but things are changing and there are a wide range of positions among various denominations and believers.
Civil disobedience is a cornerstone of a free society. She knew she was flaunting the law and chose to act illegally anyway. To me, it's no different than the Greenpeace protesters who dangled from the St. John's Bridge to delay the Shell ice-breaker. As the old saying goes, "I may disagree with what you're saying, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." She will be recalled and lose her (employment) position, and by her actions will have drawn nationwide attention to her (political/moral) position. As long is she is willing to accept the consequences of her actions, I have no problem with either her or with the officials who discipline her.
Shouldn't the same go for other public officials who ignore the immigration laws in this country? :MARIS61:
She is claiming they violate her personal beliefs which are her own interpretations based on her faith. The divorce, cheating, eating 5000 dicks thing is irrelevant to her core complaint.
I don't claim all Christians share her views/actions. This is not civil disobedience and not free speech. The Greenpeace protesters were not saying they should be able to refuse to do the job they were hired to do, in order to discriminate against the very people who pay their high salary. The Civil Rights protesters were protesting to make laws more fair and knew they faced consequences. No one is denying this woman the right to speech. She can say what she wants, on her time, not the taxpayers'. She can attend any church she wants, where they preach any kind of hate she sympathizes with; she cannot force the county to live by her church. She can either do her job or quit. And I know her divorces and adultery supposedly took place before she was born the second time. So what? She never argued that she should have been denied a second, third, fourth marriage license. I'm personally sick of bad behavior by those who claim to be my superiors because they are straight.
How is it not civil disobedience? What is the definition their? Is it not willful non-violent refusal to follow a law for a political purpose?
She was elected as Rowan County clerk and it would require an impeachment to remove her unless she resigns.
To give you some background: I was raised Southern Baptist Christian. I went to church three times a week. I was on the Usher board and in junior choir. I went to Sunday school every Sunday and vacation Bible school every summer. It was me at the front of the church winning Bible drills in front of 250 + people. I have read the Bible cover to cover 2 times. I know lots of things in that book right off the top of my head. Knowing what is in that book is the reason why I am agnostic. The bottom line is this: FUCK religion. Yes I said it. It does not run our country nor are laws supposed to be made based upon religion. You can believe whatever you wanna believe but our country shall not make a law out of respect of religion. Gays aren't running the sanctity of marriage. Kim Kardashian is! How are you married for 72 days and you make 17 million off of your wedding?
Thank you! It seems like most people don't understand this. She can't be fired. She can be impeached but that's up to the voters in that area. Putting this nut in jail is just gonna make her a martyr. I say just fine the bitch a ton of money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
