It still creeps into my head from time to time and eats away at me. Anyone else? I always thought Torre should've been grateful for the three seasons he got after that fiasco.
...I'll be honest, I had a bad feeling after the game 4 loss...and when they also lost game 5 I remember telling my wife "We're gonna lose this series."
Game four woke the Red Sox up and five knocked the Yankees on their heels for sure. I was at the Schilling bloody sock game on one of the coldest and dampest October nights I can remember. Game seven I didn't even want to watch because I knew they were done.
Personally, I had a bad feeling after game 3... I recall feeling like they awoke the beast with the ass whooping handed out...
I still get pissed over the 04 PS.........yes, I do........... Game 4's 12 innings, took the air out of my lungs, Game 5's 14 inning affair, tho' a helluva game, I never felt the Yanx stood a chance from there on out, not after the looks on their faces at the end of Gm 4. The Halos 86 ALCS loss, was quit similar to me, in the fact, I knew once the show went back to Beantown, in 86, for the last 2 games, would be a joke to even watch........
That '04 defeat was a huge embarrassment for the franchise Yankees fielded a hell of a team that year but I still think Pettitte was a missing ingredient. I still wonder how Torre escaped being fired.
There are three four the Yankees lost that really got me pissed, first being the '60 against Pittsburgh, The '81 Series against Los Angeles, '01 Series against Arizona, but that '04 took first. I did not have a computer for a few years and was tracking things the old school USA Today way. My first shock in '04 was finding out Pettitte was gone, second being the Yankees got A-rod. I didn't have a TV then either so I'd go to the Wing House and watch, not good I get really carried away. There was a guy I worked with who was a huge Red Sox Fan and I had to go to work and face that guy with my tail between my legs, not pleasant.
2004 ALCS "pain" is gone. Yep- blowing a 3-0 lead was a depressing spectacle for the Yankees and their fans but honestly, the thing which still kinda annoys me a bit is the fact the Yanks had a golden opportunity to advance to the WS and -imo- despite the Cards great reg season W-L record, I feel the Yanks would've also handled them. Maybe if I had a Chrystal Ball telling me the Yanks would've lost the WS it would feel better. Blowing a 3-0 lead,...or missing a great chance to go to the WS? Both are related, but the latter is the bottom line. By the way- the 2001 WS loss to Arizona stings me more than the 2004 ALCS. Blew a chance to win FOUR STRAIGHT WS - - wasted a great dramatic go ahead 8th inn HR by Soriano off big mouth Schilling in game 7.....DAMMIT!
Yeah I remember the day after that loss to Arizona. Not a good day. For as good as he was Mariano had some really big blown saves.

The 81 Series was perhaps one of the most emotional W.Series I have ever seen. I rode My Harley here from L.A. to Goodland KS. My GrandPa, who raised me solid as a Yanx Fan. (keep in mind this was The Man, who actually saw the Larrupin Lous play the Gallupin Galoots, and He also lived (for a few years), in the town just West of Welch OK, home of the Commerce Comet. My GrandPa was dying of Pancreatic, and Intestinal Cancer, His bladder had already been removed, his 3rd surgery, left him to die at home, in his wooden rocking chair, he always sat in. We watched the entire Series, the moment Dave La Roche came out and threw his Eephus Pitch, I thought its all over, and it was when Tommy John was pulled off the mound. I still say TJ had the game where he wanted it, and panic set in with Bob Lemon........ 81 was also the Year, the Yanx selected John Elway in the Draft.....that'd of been interesting maybe......
