Because Dame doesn't need PG improvement. He needs D improvement and Well Steve Nash. Hall of Famer, but with no D. CJ, learned a lot from Steve just by his few comments, I could tell. How to manipulate your defender with your eyes. That's QB skill.s Look off your defender. This will open things up for CJ too. Im stoked!!! 42+ this season baby!!!
Not saying he cant improve, but would Nash be the best guy for him? I question that. They are already fairly similar players. Id much rather see Dame doing what he is doing. Be a team leader and work on his D.
Because Dame doesn't want to get 18 assists a game. Lazy ass. I bet Dame could drink that canadian under the table though.
So: let's get this straight. We're getting Ricky Rubio so that we can turn Lillard into a SG. Meanwhile, we're turning CJ into a PG. Let's turn Tim Frazier into a center!
I am not a fan of CJ as a PG, but I feel a little better after reading these two points: "He'll still see time at shooting guard, the position he played exclusively in his first two NBA seasons, but this year he'll also be asked to take on point guard duties behind Damian Lillard" "For the way we run our offense it's a lot of motion and spots are interchangeable so I don't think it's really a big difference (between point guard and shooting guard)," McCollum said. "It's more about pace and tempo and not over dribbling." Having said that, Stotts better give him help bringing the ball up the court against the press. Actually Dame could use help with that as well.
Before we get too down on Dame and CJ, lets remember a couple things. In the last couple years, Dame had zero good screens, something that not only helps a shooter or guy cutting to the hole, but it also helps the PG move the ball up the court. I think we have younger hungrier guys that will play both offence and defense FULL court. Instead of mosey down the court and find your position to sit and wait for the ball to swing. This change will help Dame and CJ bring the ball up. We have more athletic scrapper players that will come back to the ball to help screen or take the pass. Dame had very little help and I remember specifically getting pissed a few times last year because it was obvious the other team was trying to shut D down, but no one came to him to help him move the ball. A point guard moving the ball up the court will only be as successful as his teammates are at being in the right positions to help.
GFP (Great F'ing Point). What a let down the potential LMA/Dame Duo was. Screens being a major issue there.
Fishing disputes between Canada and the US are not an unusual thing. With the way Dame drinks, it is pretty good he did not make it south of the border (yes, Portland is further north than Toronto).
This is true. To this point in his career I've felt that Dame is merely an average starting PG, when it comes to the primary responsibility of the position. However, I am very curious to see if his play-making ability was overshadowed by LMA's ego - we should find out within the first 6 weeks of the season whether Dame is a better play-maker than he's shown thus far. I suspect that what we've seen is what we get, but I'm hopeful that he has more to offer now that he has the freedom to run the team without having to feed an ego.
