So what! The things you list are things you might already have but they don't.

I honestly don't care what they choose to spend it on. It is their chance to be made whole.

No, you're throwing thing out like how this would "create equal opportunity" and how it's going to "teach them how to fish."

Now you're essentially saying "give them the money and who cares if they blow it on hookers and drugs." You can't have it both ways. You either believe that it would help people and uplift a generation so that they can become equal, OR you think they just deserve the money and fuck it.

The debt is what the debt is. The indians arent getting more than the settlement amounts, nor are the japanese, nor are the holocaust survivors.

    it really is that easy.

OK. As long as it passes as a Constitutional Amendment. How would you like to word it? I Can't quite identify with the 375000 or so slave holders that did this despicable deed, long before
me or my progenitors arrived here.
Perhaps a clear, concise and compelling reason in the form of an amendment could change my view.

The money is their equal opportunity, finally.

Like I said, it doesn't take but a small % to succeed to radically improve the lives of them all. And the rest of us.

Reparations by definition are the remedy for a wrong done to these people.

    No amendment is required.

Okay, so where do the slavers fall into all this? How about the countries that allowed this all to happen? The tribes that captured the people in the first place? Where they do fit? Can we bill them for part of this?

If you're going to do it, the top 1 percenters, who have benefited more than any group, should pay out of their assets, not their income. Problem solved.

    It is here.
The wrongs recorded in history are many, but none are listed as the business of Congress or the Federal government.
We had an amendment making them citizens. Seem logical to have an amendment to make them rich.

The government is the responsible party. They allowed it.

If other nations want to pay reparations, too, great! We don't have much of a say in those sorts of things.

Equal opportunity does not guarantee equal results.

The white people were given 40 acres and a mule, homestead rights, etc. Few of those families still hold the land. As an aggregate, the wealth and net worth of the country has grown massively. A large part of that due to free labor at the expense of blacks.

There never has been equal opportunity. The money is how legal systems make people whole.

There are a number of things in the constitution that support reparations. Including the government having the right to pay debts as well as the 13th amendment.

Funny you mention the 13th. Yes Slavery has been outlawed, but you know, making a man pay for a wrong in which he had no part does smack of involuntary servitude.

How deep should we go Denny? Someone that has 1/100th of African blood in the US? How do we find out if someone was here when slavery happened?

70% of people who come into large sums of money end up broke with SEVEN YEARS. What if your plan actually causes much more harm than it does good?

If you can't trace your ancestry to slaves, you don't qualify.

It isn't as difficult as you want it to be.
