My birth name is Damany Igwe White (dropped my last name and now I'm Damany Iqwé). My family was owned by a plantation owner in Kentucky named Durrett White.

Speak for people often? I don't know what you're talking about but this would strengthen my family. It would allow me to afford a down payment on a new house or put money in my child's college fund. I think it should be accompanied with mandatory financial advice.

 

My grandmother and cousins lived on Vancouver and near Williams. I've lived on Alberta 2 different times. My cousin lived around the corner from Mississippi St. My great grandmother lived in Vanport before the flood. ALL of those neighborhoods (Vanport no longer exists) are gentrified in a major way. There are really no historic Black neighborhoods in Portland anymore. The hipsters are taking over!! :MARIS61: Gresham is the hood now....

 

Greshams not really the hood. Westsiders just think it is. Rockwood can get shady, but for the most part it's kinda quiet.

 

My point is there is no Black area of town so the "solution" you suggested doesn't work.

 

So me, who did nothing, and my tax dollars would go to individuals that were born in the same hospital, went to the same schools because someone over 100 years ago enslaved someone said person never knew?

 

400 years? Our country is only 239 years old.

 

I am in favor of drastically cutting the military budget and reinvesting it in the infrastructure of this country. What I don't want to see is for us to flush a few trillion down the toilet. I would like to actually see some change for the better. Our education system is woefully behind the rest of the world. We need to turn that around, and soon.

I would like to see our military change in two ways:

1. Shift active duty to a much smaller, much more elite, very specialized model. Keep units like Delta, Navy SEALS, Marine Force Recon, etc. I would keep the Navy at close to full strength, but I would reduce the Army and the Air Force significantly. The Marines and the Navy go hand in hand. Having a powerful Navy is probably the most important deterrent, and having subs/carriers/missile cruisers is much more important than having bomber bases (sorry airforce).

2. Implement a system that gives free education and free health care to people who enlist with their national guard. The caveat is that the National Guard can not be called up unless we are actually being invaded. Zero deployments. The intention of the national guard was not to deploy overseas. That defeats the whole purpose of having trained force that can be called up in an emergency. While people are registered with the national guard, they can attend school free of charge.

 

Slavery existed in North America long before any white man set foot on its shores. What's your point?

 

Well you're specifically talking about the US government paying reparations, so you can't say "400 years of slavery" because the US government didn't exist for 400 years. Actually, that's a good point. Maybe the Brits should have to toss in on this. And maybe some of the American Indian tribes as well, because they owned black slaves.

 

Denny, if you want to get your black slave reparations bill passed, you need to broaden your support base.

I just happen to represent all of the dog owners with female dogs that are bulimic lesbians. If you throw a couple trillion dollars our way, payable directly to the dog owners of course. We will make sure our dogs receive the proper guidance to work through their emotional problems from many decades of sexism abuse. And we will help you pass your bill.
