"I asked Yogi what DiMaggio would hit if He played in todays games, and Yogi said; "about .240." - When asked why would the most decorated MLB player would only hit .240, Yogi replied: "Well he's 80 Years old.

I've always loved this catchy tune, even tho' I wasn't around for the Yankee Clipper's playing days. Heard it many times on ESPN - Classic........

Read somewhere that according to Marilyn Monroe Joe D. was pretty good with his natural bat. Wish I could have seen that guy play. Always heard the man was smooth as silk in the field. And like Yogi Di Maggio has a very low career strike out total.

No doubt one of the greatest players in the game....what I'd of given to of seen Joe play. I had totally forgotten that Joe was married prior to Marilyn, and his 1st wife was also an actress.....

I guess his natural bat was too long.....!

Marilyn couldn't have been to bright, she made a three or four day USO tour to American Troops in Korea. When she came back she told DiMaggio "Joe you never heard such cheering. Damn Marilyn Joe played before huge Yankees Stadium crowds from '36-51 war years excepted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMO Joe D, was in a world beyond Marilyn's......I was very impressed how Joe's Trust, ensured a single red rose at her Mausoleum, which hides behind a bank and theater. The access road to the Cemetary looks like a alleyway, then all the sudden its a Park, and anyone can drive right up to Marilyn's resting spot.....

    She resides at:
Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park
1218 Glendon Ave. One block east of Westwood Blvd and Melrose....

Joe D did not care for the Hollywood "elite" pretty much swept in there and took control after she passed away.

This book, is the best book I've read on Joe's Personal Life. Wherever Joe went after baseball, He travelled with a Posse of Lawyers, Advisers, et al. Written by one of Joe's Personal friends.
    DiMaggios.jpg

    Amazon Review:
idely considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Joe DiMaggio transcended sports and was a true American icon. Beyond his public life in a New York Yankee uniform and his glamorous if brief marriage to Marilyn Monroe, DiMaggio was an intensely private individual who rarely, if ever, revealed himself to biographers attempting to tell his life story. Until now, (written by): Morris Engelberg, DiMaggio's closest friend and confidante over the last 16 years of his life, had rare access and insight to the man behind the legend. Teamed up with longtime AP journalist Marv Schneider, Engelberg corrects inaccuracies in recent biographies of DiMaggio and reveals the true, inside story of the great "Joltin' Joe."

The book - "Summer of '49; was the best story I've read on DiMaggio's Heroics vs Ted Williams. A great story behind the AL Pennant race, and Yanx - Beaneaters; coming down to the last game of the Season.

Two other great DiMaggio books, on his Feats and playing years are:
"56" Joe DiMaggio and the Last Magic Number in Sports.

"The Unforgettable Season: Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and the Record-Setting Summer of1941."

Read "The Summer of '49" myself awesome book. Di Maggio no doubt was very much the team player. If you read Number 1 you'd find Joe D had a huge admirer in Billy Martin.

Old Boston chant: "He aint as good as his brother Joe, Dominic Di Maggio.
