Please don't give this guy personal attention. Don't share his name and shit. Don't increase his infamy.

The lack of medical attention for mental disorders in this country is awful

With all these shootings, bi-polar disorder, depression, aspergers, etc. Are at the root. I'd bet almost anything

On the one hand, I completely agree with you, but on the other hand we really need to start understanding why these kids are doing this. Sure, we can blame the guns and spend all our time and energy trying to control the guns, but why is it happening in the first place? What is causing these kids to decide that they need to go shoot up a school or a movie theater? What pushes them to that breaking point? Do they have nothing to lose? They crave attention that much? Do they have no friends? Are they lonely and depressed? I want to know why they do it.

One thing that I don't think gets talked about enough is that these kids can go online and get encouragement from other people. Before the internet, nobody could have done that. You wouldn't go out and openly talk about doing something like this. But the anonymity allows these kids to openly discuss what they want to do with others. The internet also gives these kids significantly more attention than ever before. Billions of people hear about them, almost in real time. If you're an attention craved nutjob, that kind of mass exposure is almost impossible to turn down.

Not saying his name will do nothing. It will be all over the news and internet soon.

CNN isn't sharing his name right now--not sure if that is because they can't or because they've chosen not to.

There's a "hashtag" going around social media of people celebrating that they are on big pharm anti-depressants. #MedicatedandMighty

    http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/01/these...tal-health-is-not-a-sign-of-weakness-5416391/

Its a cultural issue. People are getting their kids all hopped up on these anti-depressants and shit.

I have a strong opinion about this trend and it comes from isolated entertainment that involves killing over and over and over again, but my son disagrees with me. The other factor is parental apathy. Teens need a voice of reason and in many cases, lack healthy activities. I told my son and his friends for many many years that they should think about military careers given their obsession with games of assasination and death. My son outgrew it, for a youngster less mentally stable..it might have a more negative impact on reality. This is not going to be a popular topic with the younger generation around here but I thought I should mention it

I think you can have it both ways. You can have the discussion without unintentionally lionizing the killers.

Unlikely. People ought not to jump to these sorts of conclusions.

I think we are definitely desensitized because of games/movies/TV. There's always horrible videos going around on the internet of people dying, and it seems to completely unphase people who watch them. With that said, being unphased about violence doesn't mean that people are more likely to commit violence. It goes deeper than that.

One thing that I've always felt is that my generation never had a war with high casualties, so these nutjobs were never sent off to die on the battlefield.

The US had 407,300 military deaths during WWII.

The US had 37,000 casualties during the Korean War.

The US had 58,220 casualties during the Vietnam War.

The US had roughly 6800 casualties between the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
