You can't just ignore how a 162 game season plays out. What people thought or predicted about the team in March and April has nothing to do with right now. The Yankees at one point were eight games ahead in the east. At that point the season then claims higher expectations.

Toronto was under .500 basically for the first half....Redsox were a mess, Baltimore never got going.....Toronto TO THEIR CREDIT did make a couple of big bold moves, and ultimately had three guys with 35-40 HRs and 100 RBI....
Yanks were still in the division hunt right into mid-late September....Jays were BETTER. They took 5 out of 7 from the Yanks Sept 11- Sept 23 sandwiched around the Yanks taking 4/6 from Tampa and the Mets.

Toronto (obviously) was the better team....sh!t happens.

That just made for a fantastic conclusion to this football Sunday. The Giants right in the mix.

    You should get straight.
I never "began" with 96 wins....
The exact statement was "approx" 90 wins..... exact words. Look it up.
Actually, the usual suspect tried to twist "approx" and 90 into 92,93,94 wins.
    Understand?
Needless to say, at that point I had to do the usual dance with him and explain "approx" 90 wins means approx 90 wins....want to give or take a game in either direction would suffice for "APPROX" in my book.
    Understand?
    They won 87....realistic?
Was "approx" 90 wins further away and less "realistic" than YOU'RE prediction?

I picked them to win MORE games than you did...and they DID.
    Bye bye.

    Are you now stuttering?

Yanks were 2.5 games out of 1st place on September 20 with a game left vs Toronto.
Is that being "in the mix"?....in "mid-late September"?

    How silly do you feel?
    It's okay....nobody's perfect.

Please let me give you a little tip- try not to let being prejudiced against someone get the best of you. It's worse than being "rude".

    ....^^^

Romo will never see a Super Bowl, unless he watches one on TV.....

Go G-Men indeed. Beckham damn near made another 2 finger catch, what a stud. Beckham Jr, and Amari Cooper, Julio Jones, have all set the bar a couple of notches higher, for all NFL WR's.......

Mr. Rodgers is UN-believable; as always.....

    Those darn Home Runs.
Maybe we should take a run off the board whenever a team hits one.

Shit happens when your GM sits on his ass while every other contending teams goes out and gets better. Teams like the Mets and Rangers won themselves the divisions. The Yankees were dealt two months of mediocrity. This in the race until September nonsense is worthless because again is completely ignores the fact that they went from being eight games up at one point to finishing six games behind.

Jeez.....I hope he didn't get vaporized by my reply (post # 29) to his nasty attack on me, (post #23).

He was so sure and brave. Ah shucks.

1 for 7 to finish the season....sorry but that's a closer approximation to the quality of this team right now. Absent a hot streak where many other teams struggled...this team would be fighting the Sox for the basement. They may get lucky vs Houston, but I can't see this team winning a 5 game series.

As I remember most here figured given a weak AL East Division a win total in the mid eighties (Yankees) with 87-88 winning. What we could not have predicted was Toronto adding all those players and running the table.

    Bingo!
Toronto sustained a win% somewhere around or above .700 from late July onward and kinda finished the deal taking 5/7 from the Yanks 9/11-9/23.

I remember personally posting back in August....if Toronto continues at this pace it'll be more of a case of them winning the division than the Yanks losing it.

All of us would've liked to see CASHMAN make some "magic" move but unless he was going to get a TOP LEVEL player/pitcher it probably possibly wouldn't be a difference maker- and he DID say time and again he wanted to hold onto his top prospects, not overpay and believed any mediocre options via the trade market were no better than in house options.
He made this very clear and if the Yanks and anyone else want to dump him I'm not going to lose sleep over it either way.

We can sit here all day and keep pointing to Toronto's play to feel better about the fact that the Yankees collapsed. Toronto had nothing to do with the Yankees going 2-5 against the Indians in August which included losing three of four at home. Which was followed by losing two of three to Houston at home. They also had nothing to do with the Yankees losing two or three at home to Baltimore or this horrible 1-6 end to the season. 29-31 in August and September so yeah while the Yankees couldn't beat Toronto in the games they had to the Yankees did themselves no favors in game they needed to win. They were also 15-19 at home in the final two months of the season. So just enough already.

And technically ALDS, ALCS and WS are playoff games...this WC play-in game is a marketing gimmick and shouldn't count as the playoffs. To me, win this and your in. At this point the Yanks are not yet IN.

Yup, it's an NCAA style play in game. To me it's just dumb having a one and done situation after a 162 game season. It's a shame that the Pirates or the Cubs after the seasons they had will be going home after just one playoff game.
