The 2015 Nobel Prize for Courage was awarded to Caitlyn Jenner for “fostering awareness and acceptance of the transgender community”, read a statement released by the prize committee. “By demonstrating the courage and valor of the human spirit, Caitlyn Jenner embodies the universal, honorable, and truthful pursuit of following one’s convictions in the face of adversity.”

Jenner, best known as a television personality and former Olympic athlete, transitioned from Bruce to Caitlyn in May 2015, an event widely publicized to promote a reality television series.

In July 2015, Jenner received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, urging acceptance for members of the transgender population, especially teens. Reaction to the courage award was mixed. Some called Jenner brave, while others labeled the award choice “a crass exploitationplay.”

Jenner hopes the public’s response to the Nobel Prize will be positive, and looks forward to increasing the visibility of transgendered persons, and bringing to light issues they face to a global audience.

The award, the first of its kind, reflects a world in which diversity has become more mainstream than fringe, but was not the only controversial Nobel decision. This year’s peace prize was given to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, and not awarded to Pope Francis, the expected recipient.

Reports that the Pope’s decision to meet with Kentucky clerk Kim Davis removed or disqualified him from prize consideration were denied by members of the committee. Representatives from the Vatican declined comment.

I wonder how the family of the person she killed feels about that...

Yeah, this self centered prick.....er, twat,.....er....whatever.......just screams "courage". Like what Alex Skarlatos and his buddies, or Chris Mintz did under fire was a simple walk in the park next to "Caitlyn's" actions. Jeezus Christ All Friday. No wonder this country...and world...is so fucked up. Courage my ass.....

White people are so concerned with being accepting now that they go completely overboard and become too accepting.

Honestly, I thought Bruce Jenner was a tool before he ever became a woman. I never thought he was a particularly great human being before, I think he should be serving jail time for killing that woman, and I find it completely ludicrous that he's getting all this publicity. Like nobody has ever seen a transvestite before?

What a waste of mentally ill, self-mutilated human flesh.

She's not a transvestite. She is transgender. There is a massive difference.

Sorry, my mistake. Regardless, I think she should be serving jail time right now.

She was traveling at an unsafe speed and plowed into the back of another car, killing a woman. There were rumors that she was texting while she was driving. The DA decided not to press charges.

Now I want to go see Rocky Horror Picture Show. Wanna go with me, Eric?! :)

And btw, when did he ever kill anyone? I never remember hearing about that.

(Also, I say he because I presume that if it happened, it happened while still the male gender. Otherwise, I would say she. I have no idea if that's the proper protocol, so any misunderstanding on my part, I apologize for. I just can't remember how that goes.)

That's a question I have. Do we call everything in their past by the current gender? I'm intrigued.
