I can't believe how much weight he gained. He's not at Shawn Kemp level after his payday, but it's close
How much does he weigh? He doesn't really look that fat to me. But in the few clips I've seen of him as a spur, he does seem a bit lethargic, but I'm used to that from his days as a Blazer.
It'll be fun to track them as the season goes on. The vast majority of LAs games, he shoots a high volume at a low percentage. The Spurs are used to playing very intelligent basketball. I was confused as to why they were so interested in him. Maybe they just remembered the good games he had against them. But did they do their homework, did they watch film of him?
Lol spurs fans are in for a treat. Talking about how he is a, and I quote "deadly mid range shooter" haha
Im sure they thought they could 'fix' him. We will see. Its almost like watching a car wreck. You see it happening in slow motion, but there isnt anything you can do & you cant look away... you have to watch and see if o e of the drivers can manuver enough to avoid the wreck.
I find that description odd also. One comparison I've heard for Aldridge is Nowitzki. Yes, both take about 55% of their shots from 10 ft and the 3pt line. However, looking at the stats: Aldridge: FG% between 10-16: 41.0% FG% between 16<3pt: 42.0% Nowitzki: FG% between 10-16: 47.2% FG% between 16<3pt: 47.7% Another quote from SpursTalk: It's not the shots at the rim that I'd be worried about. It's those mid-range shots between 10 ft and the 3pt line. Get ready for a steady diet of 41-42% shooting with over half his shots coming from that range.
Yeah and just wait until Pop gets on him for settling for those shots. No way Pop brought him in so he can jack up a bunch of 15 footers.
Lamarcus had everything catered to him in Portland and still found things to bitch about. I doubt stotts ever got on him about anything. Pop will be a different story and I'm not sure lamarcus is mentally capable of handling it.
Exactly, he's a good finisher around the rim. His mid range shot is better than the league average, so you could technically say he's a "good mid range shooter", the problem, is volume. Dirk not only shoots 6% higher from mid range, but he also shoots and makes a lot more 3s. And he hits about as well from 3 as LA does from the mid range, so that makes a big difference in their overall efficiency. edit: just looked up this stat, and he's actually only above the league average on his 16-23 shot, by like 2%. So not exactly deadly. He's actually worse on his 10-15. So he's taking a large volume of what every coach knows is the worst shot.
All because he's too lazy to get physical. Same thing on defense. He'd rather swipe at the ball like a guard than go up and block the shot. I HATED how announcers viewed that as a positive. You also probably only need one hand to count the amount of times he blocked a shot as a help defender.
Another one that I hated is when commentators would imply that somehow LA shooting those mid range shots opened things up for the rest of the team. How did that work? It never made any sense to me. He was just forcing up shots against 1 on 1 coverage and didn't get many assists. Just imagine you're a head coach, and a scout comes up to you, and says there's a guy on the opposing team that likes to shoot 13 mid range jump shots per game, and he doesn't shoot it any better than the league average. Would you design your game plan to stop him from shooting? Hell no, you'd want him to take that as much as possible. If he gets hot, nothing you can do about it any more that you can do anything about JR Smith getting hot from 3.
LA was actually better in the pre-Stotts era. He had one or two seasons under McMillen where he'd play in the low post, and he was awesome, then Stotts came around and he tried to play like Nowitski. Not sure if that is because of Stotts, or if he just reverted.
