I dont think he means it literally Bones. But there is no denying that there are player preferences from the opponents on who you would rather shoot the ball. Meaning, Houston would rather take a chance on Allen's shot than some other players. Edited to making F'ing sense. LOL.
I agree, but defense is geared to stop teams from getting open shots. If he was serious web saying they decided to let him score than that's completely wrong.
Not always. With advanced scouting, teams will give up open shots to guys all the time. Defenses now are geared to make players shoot from statistically poir floor areas. Like baseball, guys will throw three fastballs in a row for strikes and fans will scream why didnt the guy hit it. It's because advanced scouting tells the pitcher he can't hit fastballs belt or higher. If a player who shoots 50% from top key right, but 40% from top key left them defenses have the option of pushing the player left and sagging off to prevent bad things, or playing up on the player right potentialy giving up bad things down low. So in a round anout way, yes, teams allow players to score on every possession because unless a team NEVER SAGS OR DOUBLES then someone is always open on every play.
But when these teams double, it's to stop a good player, not to let a bad offensive player get an open shot.. Even though that's a likely.possibility.
Its cause and effect. Stop the star and the average joe gets the potential shot. Not that they are letting him shoot, but they would rather have him shoot and like MM said, if you can get the ball into the lesser shooter AND get him to shoot outside of his comfort spots? Let him take it. Go for it. We will rebound... Happens all the time.
In the playoffs three seasons ago, the Spurs chose to make rookie Harrison Barnes the star of the Warriors. Remember? And Barnes put up huge numbers. That was Popp's plan. Curry and Klay were killing them so they made a conscious effort to make Barnes the star. It worked. Spurs won the series. Oh, just scrolled back and saw that this point was already made.
