Really? You don''t think at least half the teams in the league would not gladly take C.J. as their starting SG? Yes, last night was just one game, but it builds on what he did in the playoffs last year (and he did that against Tony Allen, one of th ebst perimeter defenders in the league). In his last two games, he's averaging 35 ppg on .619 FG% and .650 3FG%. In his last 4 games he's averaging 28.5 ppg on .618 FG% and .654 3FG%. The guy just turned 24, has great handles and can get his shot off against anyone. So, if that's not starter quality, name 30 other SGs in the entire world who are better. I bet you can't even name 15. BNM
Come on! Get real. You get assist by setting up shots players can make, not misses. I am speaking of using processions to make assist not take 3 point attempts and I clearly noted one choice where the possibility occurred and the wrong choice taken. He clearly is good enough to do it better if it were demanded of him.
Clearly he believes in the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen, the practice of continuous improvement. If Dame gets 14 assists on Friday, Marazul will demand 16 on Saturday.
So wide open shots aren't shots that players can make? He fed Meyers multiple wide open shots on drive and dish situations. Meyers just wasn't hitting them. I think he was 1-7 at one point. Dame had 11 freaking assists last night. I don't think you'll ever be happy with him. If he got 14, you'd say he should have had 16 or 17. At halftime Meyers was 2-8. At the end of the third quarter he was 3-9. It wasn't until the end of the game that he finally finished with a respectable 5-12 but he was 2-7 from downtown. That's 7 three pointers that were assisted on, mostly by Dame.
You bet! Especially if he jacket up threes and hit them at a .143 clip. Dang! I though the playoff were bad at .161. He is a hell of a player except for this flaw.
It's a slump. Shooters go through slumps. His started because of a pretty gruesome injury to his shooting hand. All the best shooters have gone through slumps at some point in their career.
So I'm not going to go back and read the game thread. But I'm interested to know if anyone thought the samething about CJ when he started to force shots.. Taking bad shots and missing them.. Leading to run outs.. Pelicans couldn't take advantage but CJ did take bad shots as well and missed. Expected though this year for lillard/cj to take those bad shots for me at least. Actually that's a smart basketball play. Your big has position and a high chance of getting a tip-in if the shot is missed. Any coach or rather any coach worth anything will tell the player to shoot the 3. Big man with position is supposed to be ready to tip it in or at the very least keep the ball alive after the miss, if it misses. I understand what you're saying and where you're coming from. But you have to think more than just shot selection. I can't count how many times in the NBA of a player passing up a wide open shot.. Only to zip a pass or throw the lob to the big who while is wide open.. They're not expecting the pass and it leads to a turnover instead of shot + a possible rebound. I remember Rolo/Camby/Joel always telling the player to shoot the ball in that situation after the pass was dropped out of bounds because they weren't expecting it. (Only referencing those players because this is a blazer forum. Easier for people to have actually seen Blazer players.)
Tell you what Nate, given their track record over the last year, I will bet you a $100 that Meyers will hit a higher percentage of threes this year than Damian. What do you think?
