What moves (realistically) would you like to see happen that would make this team better in 2016 than it was in 2015? And what 5 starters would you be okay with to start the season? Are you okay with platooning Ackley & Refsnyder at 2nd base or would you bring in someone like Zobrist? Are you okay with Nova or should the team move him & perhaps go after some like Leake or Wei-Yin Chen? Do the Yankees do whatever it takes to move Gardner & for who? What to do with Bird? Etc Etc.......
This from a post I just made (Yankees news). Regarding Yanks - 2016 Yanks would love for Arod to retire and go away and that would really be best for the team going forward, payroll, "flexibility".....but he isn't, and the best we could hope for is he (at least) puts up "good" numbers in a part time DH role with Bird and Tex in some kind of semi rotation also taking turns at DH. This will probably take care of itself one way or another with injuries (Arod,Tex?) and/or old age catching up. To be fair to Tex and the Yanks, Tex was very good last year before his freaky injury and chances are he won't embarrass himself in 2016. Bird will get his turn. I'm more concerned with 2b,LF and RF....and of course SP. Would like to see the Yanks take the chance and open up a slot in the rotation for another kid pitcher along with Severino. Refsnyder MUST imo get every opportunity to LOSE the job at 2b. Would like to see one of the kids , Heathcott,Judge..Williams(?) get alot of playing time in RF, and this situation will probably also take care of itself one way or another with Beltran possibility getting traded or being limited to a part-time RF, or an injury, or him losing more to age. Gardner- after two consecutive mediocre at best seasons, it could be time to try and move him or make him the 4th-5th outfielder. Williams and Heathcott would've gotten plenty of playing time in 2015 if they didn't get hurt.....Williams - kinda freaky injury hurting his shoulder diving back to the base....and Heathcott has to get over the hump and stay reasonably healthy. _________________________ Oh, one last thing...I know it's going to sound silly (to say the least) to most, but, don't be surprised if CC is given another chance as a back end of the rotation SP.... Just saying what the Yanks may do. ....and maybe it could be time to move Nova in place of another SP preferably imo some youngster from the system ...or possibly a mid level fee agent...maybe Chen. Pretty good SP and LH which is good - adds balance to the SP. Don't get too excited over CC- This too will take care of itself one way or another. IMHO - Yanks will NOT tolerate another year of CC consistently posting an ERA above 5.00
I just want to know what other teams were asking from the Yanks at the 2015 trade deadline for: Cueto, Price, Zobrist,Revere,Hamel.....I'll forget about Tulo since he also is a broken down high paid veteran with limited flexibilty like Arod...lol And Tulo did NOTHING but show he's a DH in the waiting with very limited range at SS. Toronto can have him....and may I add, they will now move forward dealing with the Price situation/ramifications. Same for Texas with Hamel....and while Zobrist is a fine player, he isnt a kid and I would prefer not to see Refsnyder blocked by him at 2b. Anyone really know what the other teams were asking for those players? I guess we can continue to howl at the moon and grit our teeth over Cashman. We want to see the "youngsters".... the Yankees are still fully loaded with their good prospects and I have a feeling (I could be wrong) we're going to see quite a few in 2016 and onward. Fire Cashman, dump him immediately, sell the team, whatever....I would still like to know the answer to the above question....I wasn't on the phone with those other teams, sorry.
...could be, Rick. Needless to say, I wanted him at the trade deadline for this past season. But I still think Ref has a ways to go, especially defensively. ...true, Zobrist is a year older but if he'll take a ONE year deal, I say sign him...aside from 2B, he can play multiple positions and his professional workman-like reputation is a perfect fit for the Yanx.
Just go with Refsnyder until he proves he can't do the job. If he proves to be "adequate" defensively, or displays decent range with the occasional boot or throwing error, I'll take it as long as he brings the bat he has shown at very level. Zobrist is a good player - no doubt.
...well, that would be a good idea if it made sense. You can't simply wait until Refsnyder proves or disproves himself. ...if you make the decision beforehand to go with Refsnyder it means your not going to sign Zobrist...and if Refsnyder bombs, then what? ...and again, Zobrist plays MULTIPLE positions, and is a SWITCH hitter and even at his age, is a better defender than Refsnyder.
I don't remember where I saw it but Zobrist is looking for at least a 2 year deal. And yeah he can play 2B, SS & 3B.
...^^^ so would I... (my turn yo agree with you) ...but evidently it's more "mature" to first accuse people of posting "childish pictures" and then hypocritically doing the very same thing...spiffy.
With this ownership and management, Yankees will continue to be in a state of stagnation. They may be a winning ball club, but it stops right there...... they will not be a legitimate playoff.........World Series bound team. Always too many question marks. Trashman thinks he can build a winner with the word "if" as the constant. The gig is up with this man.
None of those two ever talked about wanting to be an owner of a baseball team. Did this really need explaining?
