I tend toward over analysis with my favorite entertainment goods - Blazers included. When asked what I thought after watching the film, I couldn't find the words. I wished to say, "fuckin awesome, man!", but bailed with an obligatory, "Good!" It was good. It was entertaining. And it was everything The Prez has pointed out. It wasn't transcending, and that's the disappointing part. Abrams and company were fearful of disappointing the hard core fans, and the fear was probably well founded. It was a Herculian task they were undertaking and how often do we see those kind of efforts pan out? I guess, in a way, Lucas already took the bullet for them. The hope was high, but the expectations were already sobered down thanks to parts I-III. I guess they went safe, by borrowing from the template of the New Hope, they double downed on a established winning formula and replicated it successfully, to their credit.

Abrams has good reputation in the film world, but I'll be looking forward to the new directors for the next two films. The series needed new blood, but Abrams was too reverential with the film. Hopefully, the new directors inspire some new ideas. Actually, I immediately "sensed" the absence of Lucas, the good Lucas. As bad as the parts I-III were, there were a lot of cool elements thanks to Lucas' creativity that were missing from this film. From special effects to character names, Lucas was original. All the cool parts from this film, borrowed from stuff Lucas had already dreamt up. It needs to transcend, like the originals.

I should point out what I think has potential. This time we're dealing with the hero and villain coming to age with their powers at the same time. That has potential. There weren't a lot of well crafted emotionally gripping parts, even though the storyline allowed for them. Still, when Rey and Kylo mind battle over Luke's saber stuck in the snow, that was as emotionally gripping as anything from the original three. Probably, the only time I got true chills from this film. Need more of that going forward. I don't know, I'll still go watch it another one or two times before it hits DVD, and then I'll really burn it out.

The real mission, was probably just get the Star Wars Nation back on board and they've succeeded. Hopefully, the next goal is to make us gah gah again.

I just think they could have gone so many different directions that would have been better.

The rise of the sith again on Corraban.

    Luke restarts the Jedi academy.

They're essentially rehashing the original trilogy. Now it's not the Rebellion, it's the Resistance...... ohhhhhhhhhhhh big difference.

Killing off Solo as lame as fuck. His kid is an emo bitch, and the fact that he could be bested by some chick who had never experienced any training whatsoever is pretty sad. She goes from zero powers, to suddenly using force persuasion and moving objects. That's with zero training. She just knows what to do? There's no back story on the new bad guys. There's no story about the Republic. The world killer weapon is ridiculous.

I believe Harrison Ford asked to be killed off, at least he asked to be killed off in Jedi. I'm guessing it will come out that he agreed to be in it but only if they killed him off.

I thought it was strange how quickly Rey was able to start using the force at will, but she was aware of the power of the force, had that vision, and also had that battle of wills or whatever against Kylo, which is where I think she finally became aware of what she was capable of. I agree that it didn't quite work though.

From watching the trailers and people's analysis, I thought Rey was going to be a Skywalker that was hidden away on a distant desert planet to protect her, just like Luke, and that Han Solo and Chewbacca went there on a mission to find her. I think that might end up being the case in the coming movies though.

Just got back from seeing the 10am showing in Imax 3D with my dad. My dad had taken me to see the original Star Wars when I was a little kid and it was awesome to see the new one with him.

    I had avoided all spoilers.

I enjoyed the movie. A solid 8.5/10. Some of you are just looking for shit to complain about because you think it makes you sound cool. I'm loving you hipsters bitch about the emo kid, LOL!

It was a reboot to a great franchise, setting things up nicely for future movies.

    RIP Han!

El Prez, you saw the movie the first or second day it came out and you couldn't avoid reading spoilers?!? That's just sad.

One of my buddies was over drinking and suggested checking it out instead of hitting up a bar.

    Potential Snoke spoilers?

I also turned to the Internet to get info on Snoke and came across a legit theory that he is actually the master who trained darth Sidious. Darth Sidious believed he had killed his master as most dark lords end up doing. However his master survived and waited in the shadows until the right time to resurface. I like this theory because it gives credibility to Snoke. They have to find some way to make him a badass credible threat, and this would do it.

You sound like HCP when he calls people nerds for posting in the forum.

"Hey, look at all the nerds who showed up to watch Star Wars on opening night."

    - El Prez to his friend as they're watching Star Wars on opening night.

I'm easily distracted...and a basketball junkie...movies more often than not put me right to sleep. I find If I break them up, I enjoy them more..this one I'll see if I can watch in the theater without sleeping...I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy at the theater but, dozed off for part of it...I think I should get a discount on tickets
