I know it comes across as I don't like Yandle, or don't value Yandle, or don't think he is good for this team...but that isn't the case at all. I am a big Yandle fan, but I also see our situation and realize the position we are in with him.

With Staal and McD here he is a 3rd pair LD. We cannot resign him after the season so he walks for nothing this summer. That's the reality of it. So as much as I would love to have him here long term, it simply isn't in the cards right now. If he was signed long term and locked in here without Staal (or if Staal was the one set to walk this summer) I would feel differently, but that isn't the case.

It is what it is with Yandle.

With all due respect, I don't see anyway TB has 3 mill of dead money on their cap for the next 4 or 5 years. I cannot see it. I could be wrong of course, but that is highly unlikely IMO.

Agree completely. Move makes no sense from TB's perspective unless we sweeten the pot significantly.

Steve Zipay (twitter): Hearing Tampa's asking price, at this point, is very high on Jonathan Drouin, signed thru end of '16-17, much more than rental Keith Yandle. Top prospects, picks.

Y is probably asking for Buch or Skjei, and when we say no (as we should) he hangs up (as he should).

And if it is I don't make the deal. That's my take at least. I agree Prod.

Tampa is a win now team. Prospects and picks won't cut it. To be honest, Stamkos will get 8+ million. Kucherov will probably get 6 million. They are screwed with the cap. IMO, they probably will try to package him with Cally or Filppula for one good, young established player. That's it. That way they can sign Stamkos and Kucherov. If the Rangers took Cally at full salary and Drouin for Kreider, this deal would be done tomorrow. The Rangers would have to deal somebody like Nash or Stepan first to clear cap room.

Hard to see us making this as we need to add players and not subtract them and tampa will make us pay thru the nose for him. In favor of moving Nash for some assets back (top 6 wing, 1st round pick and a RD prospect) as the cap relief alone will enable us to make other moves later in season that we need to do. Nash is not leading us anytime soon to the promised land

Let's not dismantle the team for Drouin. I would trade Skjei for Drouin in a nanosecond

I like Yandle a lot and I don't want to see him go and I understand why we may not be able to keep him. But why do we have to give 1st round picks to everyone and then others sign our players anyway like with Caly and have our picks. Enough!

How about Yandle for Droin. If you sign him, then good for you if not then not. They are getting one of the best offensive Ds in the league who can give you 5 years of good hockey. We are getting another Krieder.

I would offer them a 1st/Miller and a prospect like Gropp or Halverson, that's about it. Drouin was drafted high and has potential but he's still unproven. If the Rangers are planning on making the playoffs you can't deal Yandle and the element he provides. And not at that cap hit.

If deal Yandle then deal Boyle also, and do the rebuild now. I don't understand it. We got Yandle to win the cup, so if we are not winning the cup then let's deal everyone now and dismantle this team. Get picks! Yandle is proven, and this Droin guy is not. It doesn't make sense.

Bad news for you Yandle guys, based on everything I have seen recently Yandle is gone by the trade DL because we cannot resign him. Is what it is. I thought maybe they'd let it play out, but now it sounds as if no shot they let him walk for nothing this summer.

Then they better get Duclair and 1st round pick back. This is so stupid.

It has nothing to do with being a Yandle guy or not. It has everything to do with (a) the amount of assets we gave up to get him, and (b) the fact that this team has had ZERO quality puck moving, offensive defenseman since the 05 lockout, we finally get one of the best in the league (who Sather said had been a target for YEARS), and yet we can't figure out a way to keep him for longer than a year. Now that he's a pure rental it is very unlikely we'll be able to recoup the price we paid to have him for a full season. Pure incompetence.

Amen Prod. That's the issue...we cannot figure out a way to keep him for more than a year. I agree 10000000000000000000000000000%. You are dead on there. THAT'S the issue.

Because right now I would challenge that your (a):

the amount of assets we gave up to get him

is a reason to deal him at the DL not keep him for this season. We gave up a lot for him...I don't think you can let him walk for nothing this summer.

What is being discussed is an inept management group that has been in place here for way too long. No short term game plan....no long term game plan! With the climb towards the top of the league in the recent past, this team was another goal scorer or impact forward away from taking the next step. What does the legend Sather and his boys do ? Sign two aging defenseman to long term no trade contracts, then bring on a 38 yr old offensive dman Boyle and then add another offensive dman in Yandle! Expecting to deal from our D strength, this off-season he adds bascially another 4th line in Etem,Stalberg and Stoll so we now have 6 4th line players.
Of course, everyone will say we had no cap room to sign guys but management (Sather) is responsible for this ridiculous roster. Even with the young guys expected to step up, the lack of veteran leadership and depth up front was glaring and nothing was done ! Status Quo !

I'm sure they will do their best to do something with Staal before FA starts so they can try and keep Yandle. You can bet they won't be trading #93 at the dl if they're in playoff contention, whether they risk losing him for nothing or not. If they do then Gorton should be reassigned to managing the Charlotte Checkers.

I would also struds as we have graves coming up on the left side. I'm thinking now we resign Yandle if he's willing to resign here. Wish AV would get him some more minutes on PP. His lack of physicality is taken care of next year with Dylan as his partner and no one messes with him. That is of course if av doesn't sit dylan and play glass at rd next year.

We cannot resign Yandle if Staal is here. Reality of the situation mel. That is not possible given the cap (unless Yandle takes a HUGE discount to play here...which is not happening). If we did resign him we would be f'd upfront with all that money tied up in the D. Cannot happen sadly.

That was my take based on comments when they traded for him 71, but I don't feel that way anymore. I don't think they would risk losing him for nothing this summer.

The only caveat I will add to that is unless we are playing so well at the trade DL and look like a monster team that is a clear SC fav. Outside of that I just don't see any way they let him walk this summer and get nothing.

    We'll see though.

Bob McKenzie says that it would be a "shock, and then some" to see Tampa trade Drouin within the division "and perhaps even the Eastern Conference." (TSN)

An Eastern Conference executive told McKenzie that Drouin is going to the Western Conference "unless and East team makes the very best offer." (TSN)

McKenzie does list the Rangers as one of 12 teams interested in Drouin. (TSN)
