What if Myers Leonard had started last night against GS? Instead of 0 for 10 shooting, the Blazers might have had 3-pointers from Myers--and lead, or stayed with, GS early. No Blazer was scoring early, but the best scoring threat was not in the game! The momentum would have been different and the outcome consequently better with early 3-point scores by Myers! We are now dreading these early failures to score. I have to ask why it makes sense to start Noah Vonleh instead of Myers Leonard. Myers has the potential to score 18 or more points per game (based on 12 swish3's plus FTs), and should be starting both halves, and playing for at least 24 minutes of each game. Myers should also be more strongly encouraged to take each open 3-point opportunity. He seems overly generous with finding them for others when he is one of the most efficient scoring threats. Effectiveness in passing to get the open favorite spot shot by the most productive shooters needs to be considered. This strategy would bring the Blazers closer to balanced scoring, and seems to be much improved when Myers is in the lineup, which should be much more in my opinion.
I think for him and the team you might be right. But I also really don't want to take mi it's from Vonleh. Vonleh has been learning and improving his game throughout the season. I don't want to hinder that, so I think we should keep starting Noah until Meyers proves himself worthy of starting.
Only 2 options for Leonard at the end of the season: 1.He leaves. 2.We overpay to keep him. I'm not so high on him right now, maybe with the right coach he could have been something special.
The kid is to soft and the game is built more than just scoring. You can't rebound sometime it all the time even you don't get some put some effort in it. Myers doesn't scare anybody when he is in middle so they go at him in most of the time it leads to a foul. Myers is nice kid but for me that don't make you ball player. Neil miss on him when draft period let just move on with out him.
So wait, you are saying; "Enough already with that "noble" front court." then? Right! If so, then why would that be a problem to have?
Just imagine what Myers contributing 15 points (40+ percent scoring on 12 swish3 shots) would have contributed in this game, if he had only taken them! With hot swish3 shooting, there might be another 3+ points, getting him to the 18+ points needed from our forwards. On defense, Myers appears better than Noah. Myers does really bother the shots of everyone he guards when he reaches his arms high and forces opponents to change their shot trajectory. In this respect, Myers is improving and he should be encouraged. What are the arguments in favor of starting Noah instead of Myers?
I think Noah's defense is better than Meyers. I'll have to keep a better eye on their defense hence forth to properly compare the two. Noah's foot work on defense is remarkably good, he seems like he has a knack for staying on his man in the post. I don't think Meyers has the foot work Vonleh has, which is why I think Vonleh stands a better chance of developing a polished post game. I think it's also a matter of letting the young guy (Vonleh) continue to have structure. There's confidence that comes with starting every game, even if he is playing less minutes than Meyers. And pulling Vonleh out of the starting lineup could hinder his growth. Meyers has been there before and been in the league for years now. I feel like he should be capable of coming of the bench, that might even be the best place for him. I'd love a strong post presence in the starting lineup with our drive and dish guards. Having a floor spacer on the bench could pose problems for second units. Along with the structure and consistency is the chemistry. If Noah really is our PF of the future (I think he will continue to develope and prove this) then we want him on the court with our core unit as much as possible.
Yeah, the same way the swastika is viewed as a sacred Hindu and Buddhist symbol meaning "good fortune".
I agree that Noah has better D than Leonard overall. In fact, I think that is Noah's biggest strength right now. He plays very good D for his age and size.
He may never have a great offensive game. Some guys have the moves but can't finish. I'm just fine with that, because Vonleh shows elite defensive potential. He could be a lock down presence and Defensive POY cantidate down the road.
What the heck is that? And arguments? Noah could actually be good, where Meyers is not going to be. He's soft, lazy, unmotivated, and should never ever start in the NBA. And why Meyers contributing 15 points? Why not others? You can plug ANY name in and say "if they contributed" You can't just magically say they are contributing. They have to actually be good. Something Meyers will never be in basketball.
Geez! I can't believe this Board. You like guards chucking and and bigs that can't even find an offense. Worse yet you can't even identify your best shooter. Neither can your PG.
