Sure they could go acquire one by trade, by purchase....whatever. But as of now....

Let's win as many as possible and then see what Neil can do. He's got a lot of cap space, two expiring contracts on top of that, and players he can deal.

Thr lottery is suspect almost a good amount of the time. I think or five or six draft classes where the top was front loaded but that's about it. Free agency is going to make or break the future of this team. It's that way for the entire NBA now. There isn't as much league wide talent and European players are staying home in greater numbers. But I want Neil to pull some Steve Balmer-type shit this off season. We cant take no for an answer. Don't sell this town.... sell the vision of this team! We aren't talking about missing out on Greg Monroe. We are taking the life and death of the f-cking franchise. Let's make future free agents look at Neil like he's Robert Evans with a silver coke spoon!

Im behind the game on this and many threads... Been sicker than shit last few days.

But I wont to zero in on this.....

Cant talent develop though? Some of the guys on this team are still unknowns that might just develop into that needed talent. Playoff experience can be a huge help to growth.

Please read my comment above. If players can grow and develop ( most do in the NBA, especially bigs) and the Playoffs can be a great experience to help with growth and knowledge of what it takes, how is that sacrificing the future?

If we make the playoffs, I think we will be better off than if we retain one pick that definitely wont be a top 5 at this point....

As wook can scream... FUCK THE DRAFT!!!

Dviss. You also said that there is more than one way to win, but then said we need our draft pick because of being a small market. But if there is more than one way to win, then how come we cant win with growth and experience?

Guys... this team is EXTREMELY YOUNG!!!! Give them time to figure out where we will actually level off at before just dismissing this team and saying we dont have enough talent. The talent on this team has not yet been completely defined....

^I don't disagree, and I've said in the past if this team has the potential, I'd like to see them in the playoffs. I'd kinda rather have a lotto pick, though, than crawl in the playoffs as an eighth seed with like 38 wins.

    Saying this for years
Of course it can develop. But there are limits to that. Is Plumlee going to get significantly stronger or taller or develop a consistent 15 foot jumper? Same with Ed Davis? Maybe. What would you put the likelihood of that? I'd say some improvement is likely, but Davis is 26, Plumlee's 25, Aminu's 25 ... unless they are extremely atypical, what you see from them is probably what you are going to get. How much improvement do you really think Leonard and Crabbe are going to make, and I mean realistically?

There's hope for Vonleh and Montero, but right now they are really far away from being big contributors for a contending team. The odds of them getting anywhere near it are probably 50 percent if you are being an optimist.

Playoff experience can help growth, but you still need the talent to get to the next level. There are a lot of teams and players that made it to the playoffs but it didn't turn them into contenders. Remember the Nuggets team that beat Seattle and played in the Western Conference finals with one player with more than four years of pro experience? The next year it lost in the first round. It missed the playoffs the next eight years. How about those great contending T-Wolves Garnett played for? They lost in the first round seven straight years before finally losing in the Western Conference finals -- and they haven't returned to the playoffs since. The Dominque Wilkins-era Atlanta Hawks made the playoffs 13 times in a 16 years stretch and never made it beyond the second round of the playoffs.

I have a lot of experience, but I am not going to be taking a team deep into the playoffs. There's a reason for that.

I wish science could figure out a way to beam Sabonis' brain into Meyers' body. Man, that would be something.

Then again, his body would have to learn to adapt to cigarettes and vodka, so I'm not sure that it would be totally good.
