And how exactly would you know that? Did they tell you?

Government workers get break time. Shocking, but true.

If you like big government, the more inconvenient the better. It's as simple as that.

You are talking about saving nickels when the government is spending $billions.

An hour plus of break time to play cards.

Our ideas about how government should function clearly differ. I don't want to pay $.01 for workers to play cards. Or that's all they should do.

They didn't negotiate a sale price. The owner had no choice to sell. Eminent domain requires the government to pay fair market value, at least. The owner tried to convince the government to let his business succeed but the government didn't make it possible.

If the city zoned all the spaces for parking at the restaurant as 5 minute loading zones, they can offer a lowball price.

Bankruptcy is the wrong word. The owner would only be made whole if he had his restaurant fully functional and making him similar money somewhere else.

But maybe his business will file bankruptcy.

I'm sorry, Denny, but that is just literally incorrect. They DID negotiate a sale price, and the government was NOT the only potential buyer. The owner did not have to sell to the government. He chose to.

Sure, but (a) there aren't any, and (b) the government didn't do that.

    It certainly is.

I don't see how it possibly could. I haven't seen his books, but I'd be very surprised if he wasn't hugely profitable, plus he just cashed out the building.

That sounds fun. I like the rarer varietals, or lesser-known. You don't see much of those varieties around, though Carmenere and Albarino generally seem a little more common than the other two. We used to drink a fair amount of an inexpensive Chilean Carmenere - I mean at least a bottle a week, but I cannot remember the winery at the moment. There was a vintage or two where I think Las Rocas had an interesting Carmenere, but the more recent stuff wasn't as interesting. I love a good Albarino, though. Abacela in Southern Oregon makes one I find pretty impressive. We import one from Spain that is the tits - I'll actually be visiting the producer in April.

This whole post is full of shit.

I wouldn't be surprised if the guy owed more than he got. If the business was doing so well, someone would have made an offer. They must have seen the government squashing the business as a negative. The owner said the only viable resolution was to sell; if he chose not to then what?

    Government killed the business.

And you didn't take a picture or video? I see something like that I'm taking a picture and letting them know I'm taking a picture. Sending it to the news, posting it on the city's facebook page. You do nothing?

Something similar happened to me when I went to Comcast, dip shits fucking around, not helping anyone, line stacking up. I started taking pictures. Manager starts freaking out. Calls some kid out from back to stop me from leaving. Says I have no permission to take her picture and that she wants my phone to delete it. I point to the security cameras on the wall and told her to delete my pictures first. I emailed her boss and got her demoted, she had been promoted to manager the week before.

It seems to me that most Chilean Carm is left on the vine a bit long, over ripening it in my opinion and losing some of the varietal characteristics, especially all that bell green pepper. I love carm but it seems like most people don't. The school I go to actually makes a pretty good one. The wines from College Cellars are hit or miss because they are made by students. But we just won 14 medals at the recent San Francisco International Wine Competition.

If you make it out this way, I'll make sure aside from some of the more notable wineries around, I'll also get you some barrel tasting of the Sangio and Merlot I'm making. The Sangio is tasting amazing. I'm actually shocked, I wasn't expecting to be making something so good so soon. The grapes are from 7 hills and one row over was the Sangio that Leonetti uses. So basically, I just didn't fuck up great grapes.

Last night I got to participate in a Skype interview with the senior wine buyer for WineLibrary. It was very interesting, it was for a wine marketing class. What do you do as far as import/export? Who do you work with?

The creepy mayor was forced to resign after several women complained about inappropriate behavior.

I'm sure barfo liked the creepy democrat, and Anthony Weiner.

It certainly is. Why did you post it?

That's only because you don't have a fucking clue what you are talking about.
If you'd ever visited the restaurant you'd know it was very successful.

I wanted you to be sure I was referring to your post as being full of shit.

You have no idea if they made much money or what they owe.

Actually, I do have an idea, because I've been there often, and unlike you, I can figure out that if someone bought a building in downtown Portland 45 years ago, it's worth one hell of a lot more now than when it was purchased.

But you go on and keep digging that hole you are digging. It's already big enough to serve as the basement for the new courthouse.

45 years. How much do you think he could still owe on a 45 year old mortgage? What do you suppose the price of the building/land was back then, and what do you suppose it is now?
