I don't see how the Blues will get a top prospect for a guy who is a UFA after next year. A team would be stupid to do that unless they knew without any doubt they could sign him long term. Shattenkirk like Yandle is a good defenseman. He's not a great defenseman. The fact he's righty makes him more valuable. That being said, I wouldn't give up a top prospect for him. Hayes and Yandle fine. Graves, Skjei, McIlrath, Buchnevich, Gropp. No. Hayes only because I don't see him fitting in here. Doesn't seem like a NY guy either.

Honestly, the most I would give up with Yandle for one extra year of Shattenkirk if not Hayes would be Halverson and a prospect like Nieves. That's it. Regardless of whether I think he would sign here. The Blues on are crack. I would not be surprised if Shattenkirk told them he wants to play for the Rangers and will go UFA. Same crap happened with St. Louis. However, instead of using that leverage, Sather got fleeced.

Ottawa Sun: "It’s likely not going to happen before the deadline but you have to expect at some point Rangers’ GM Jeff Gorton will try to bring in another top six forward. The word is he’s been calling around to see what’s available and the Flyers’ GM Ron Hextall is looking as well."

GORTON IS ALIVE! Now that we know that, I want to give him at least one deadline day before I declare him a moron...

Agree. Though, I strongly believe he's a moron already.

It's not about bringing in a forward. It's about exchanging some of the forwards we have for other forwards that bring things to the team we need. Sorry, they don't need 12 goal Rick Nash any longer because he's good at carrying the puck up the ice and can play defense. They don't need I hold onto the puck forever Hayes. Or I have a 50 IQ Kreider and tease you with my talent.

I'm starting to sour on Derek "I Havent Thrown a Hit since 2012 and Get Slower Every Game" Stepan, moreso than even those guys. He needs to get his ass in gear. He's been around too long and wears a letter. No excuse for this kind of play.

This part is very interesting to me:

"It’s likely not going to happen before the deadline"

Wonder why...maybe too many teams still in it combined with our cap situation.

This guy's fall from grace is weird. He's playing at .50ppg this year when he was .81ppg last year and is .68ppg for his career (incl. this season). WTF happened i don't know and while i was never the biggest Stepan fan what he is down now is below his capabilities. Definitely a trade candidate that will shock the system.

Righty shot is badly needed. You can't forget moments like his game 7, OT winner vs the craps. However, it comes down to producing for what you are paid. He's not getting it done this year. On the bright side, his faceoffs are much better lately. He's up to 48% which is a miracle for him.

Why bring in another dman for Yandle? The Rangers have plenty of defensemen, help is needed at forward. Personally I'd rather play the much cheaper option McIlrath and wait for Shattenkirk to become an UFA. I do think the Rangers need to get rid of Yandle, in the postseason defensive play becomes the emphasis and that is Keith's weakness.

I've been saying for months Nash has to go, he might need a change of scenery to regain his scoring touch. It also might require the Rangers taking on another team's bloated contract to move a Nash or Stepan but Glen's largesse is matched by few in the NHL. I think Stepan has played through some injuries so he gets some slack but I agree he needs to play better. Here are a few bloated forward salaries other teams may be looking to offload: Dallas - Jason Spezza, 32 4 yrs/$30 mil; Ottawa - Bobby Ryan, 28 7 yrs/$50.5; Florida - Dave Bolland, 29 5 yrs/$27.5; Buffalo - Matt Moulson, 32 5 yrs/$25; L.A. - Dustin Brown, 31 8 yrs/$47 mil.

I've said that for awhile now. The guy made some great trades building the bruins and this trade deadline and summer will be his first moves without sather interfering with him. I think we'll do fine when he's done.

They aren't going to trade Nash, can we just forget that? Maybe in the last year of his deal but certainly not during the season.

71, depending on what they can get for nash in terms of young players, prospects and or draft picks at the draft I don't think he is untouchable anymore

It's possible he could be this summer, i'm more talking about during this season, if that's what was being alluded to. If not then i apologize.

Thoughts on Shane Doan? Talk about leadership...right shot with great size as well. Leads AZ with 17 goals this year despite missing 10 games (as a point of comparison, our leader is Zuc with 18).

If you remember a few years ago the summer we got Nash we were VERY close to signing him. He declined to be traded last deadline and AZ honored that, but he might be open to it this time. We might not need to win a bidding war if he wants to come here and here only. My concern there would be skating and fitting AZ's system, but he could be the best value on the market if he wants to come here.

Doan's got a lot of miles on that body. I dont think they need another 39 year old for the playoff run. MSL also had a good regular season last year then ran out of gas.

I am with Step on that one. I wouldn't say no shot at all on Doan for the right price as you said Prod, but he would be very far from my first choice.
