The FBI created an armed confrontation and murdered the man.

The man would have eventually come out unarmed and willing to be arrested.

Don't need one. They waited enough time for many of them to leave peacefully already. Proof is in the public record.

Geez, the City boys vs the cowboys, with the city boys rooting for the cops to gun down the cowboys is appalling.
Then when we have a Black man confronting the cops, they get all pissed when the cop shoot the black man.

What makes City boys so inconsistent?

The problem in both cases is police policy of requiring police officers to demand compliance with orders, setting up a confrontation where authorized use of deadly force (gun fire) is justified.
The dimwit in Chicago did not need to be gunned down. The dimwit in Oregon did not need to be gunned down. Think about it, even if he went for a gun from the hands up position, a police officer
did not need to be in range of his 9mm. The dude was wading up to ass in a snow bank! WTF was he going to do?

You City Boy have the power, you have the votes, you need to change how law enforcement works in this country. It isn't bad cops, it's dumb ass policy and procedures.

Maybe the difference between shooting an armed man and shooting an unarmed man?

Ok, so you have all officers withdraw to a distance where they are not within gunshot range (of any weapon, since they can't get close enough to determine what weaponry they might have).
    Then what?
How does one apprehend a suspect while always staying out of gunshot range, exactly?

No question that policy and procedures need fixing. But not so clear on what your recommended fix is?

Expecting rational behavior from an irrational person is irrational. Police do not expect a bear to comply with commands, but they do capture them and remove them from cities occasionally.
They really should not expect a mentally ill person, one on drugs, or dimwit to comply with commands.

In this guys case I don't know if he dropped his hand because he was shot, or went for a gun. Did he recieve a command to get face down in the snow, hands behind his back, legs spread?
I don't know. If he were a bear that did not response to commands, they would have used a tranquilizer dart. Of course, they know this from training on how to handle bears that don't follow commands.

No, it's more like cops shoot a black guy and the cops were in the right, they have a tough job. Then cops shoot a white guy and suddenly it's the cops are wrong.

That's it. We are spending too much money training the police to deal with bears, rather than humans.

I don't think you really answered the question - how should the police apprehend suspects while staying out of gunshot range?

Cool, so all they want is to be pardoned. Good luck with that.

WTF are you talking about? There's a mandatory minimum sentence for their crime. You know the mandatory minimum sentences that conservatives seem to love unless they are levied against them.

Amazing... Do you think they would have shot him if he didn't try to pull out his gun?

Cops are never wrong when they shoot anyone. Right?

Just like in the inner cities, the cops shouldn't be looking to instigate things when they could find a truly peaceful means to the desired result.

I think if they would have not tried to arrest him against his will, he would have surrendered on his own after more siege time. The group was already shrinking by attrition, and they actually weren't hurting a soul.

Arrest him against his will? So let's just get this straight:

It's ok to pull out your firearm when a federal agent is taking you into custody?
