I don't think they were harmless at all..they are guilty of criminal actions..if they were any other demographic they'd have been arrested first day of the occupation. To me this has become a horrible example of white privilege.

That has yet to be determined in a court of law.

All those guns. Did they ever fire a shot? Point them at people?

They were guilty of trespassing at most. And a lot of bluster.

If any other demographic took over a remote building in the middle of the woods, I'd lay siege to the place until they got hungry and wanted to go home. Most of them did just that (went home).

I guess the Native American's artifacts and sacred lands at the refuge were not a factor when cow's need to range...or the wildlife and ecosystem...this started with arson and poaching...imagine they were American Muslims occupying a sanctuary wildlife refuge and heavily armed, calling on war with the gov't...would that make it different?

Imagine the objective of law enforcement is to end the situation without killing people.

Marz...you really should listen to their live chat and the FBIs response..a lot of violent threats were made..calling for more folks to arm and start this revolution. Confront the cops with a loaded weapon and declare war on them...see what happens. Sadly, I do think this was strung out too long resulting in an unnecessary death that accomplished nothing.

I agree with this point completely....also imagine a protest without a declaration of war on the law and call to arms for more militia prepared to fight for their cause.....their cause was a joke. Native American tribes repeatedly asked them to leave to no avail...FBI gave them plenty of outs to avoid gunplay

You really should listen to the militia's response to their calls.

Nobody came to start this revolution you speak of.

    http://www.vocativ.com/news/276240/militia-members-oppose-calls-for-calm-after-oregon-death-arrests

The threatening remarks some militia supporters have been making on social media are in clear defiance of armed “patriot” groups’ calls for their members not to join the occupation of Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, which has been ongoing since January 2. The Three Percenters Club posted on their official Facebook page a statement advising followers: “any of you wanting to go and get involved to stay away from the refuge I repeat stay away. Anyone who goes there is being arrested and charged by the Feds.” The Pacific Patriots Network, an umbrella group for militias in the northwest, ordered members to stand down, saying in a press release that “cooler heads must prevail,” and that the group “continues to support a peaceful resolution to the occupation of the refuge.”

Time was on the FBI's side. They didn't wait long enough. They pointed guns at the protesters and it escalated to where they murdered one of them.

Even at the end, they didn't have to shoot the man. They could have backed off and let him freeze to death. Or maybe he'd surrender before that happened (likely).

Yes Denny, the FBI are calling up people and telling them that they're going to kill them.

From now on don't answer the phone, it could be the FBI telling you that they want to kill you. Even if you recognize the number don't believe it, don't answer it. The FBI is very tricky, they can spoof your call ID. Once they tell you they want to kill you it's over.

    Reuters.

The grainy footage shows Finicum raising his hands and then turning and flailing his arms. He then lowers his arms to his body and is shot by Oregon State Police troopers, the FBI said.

Greg Bretzing, special agent in charge of the FBI's Portland office, told reporters Finicum can be seen reaching for his jacket pocket, where officers found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun. But the lack of focus in the video makes it difficult to discern Finicum's precise movements.

The dead rancher's relatives said the video seems to show him gesturing, or trying to keep his balance in the snow.

"Although he may have been animated, he does not appear to have been threatening or posing any real threat or danger to anyone," Finicum's family said in their statement.

That view was echoed by some the two dozen people who held a rally outside the Harney County courthouse on Friday.

"It's kind of like murder, it looks like to me. They had every chance to take them peacefully," said 54-year-old local resident Cam Ray.

A 79-year-old rancher, Monte Siegner, held a sign that read: "Ambushed and assassinated."

"He got out with his hands up in the deep snow," Siegner said. "I didn't see any gun."

The FBI video was released hours after Todd Macfarlane, a lawyer for Finicum's relatives, said other evidence may exist that shows Finicum was not threatening authorities.

Macfarlane said one potential source of information about the shooting was Victoria Sharp, a woman who says she was friends with some of the armed protesters and claims she was at the scene and watched Finicum die.

Sharp said in an interview with Reuters that Finicum was shot with his gun in his holster and his hands in the air, shouting and walking toward police.
