This is why I want to trade CJ. If we can net a comparable star player by trading McCollum, I think we can start Crabbe and bring Hendo off the bench next season.

The Pacers are dropping like a rock. They're in 8th in the east, they're hovering around .500, and they've lost 7 of their last 10 games. Now is the time to strike. Offer up CJ/Meyers/Plumlee for Paul George. In the summer make a push for someone like Horford, re-sign Hendo and Crabbe, and maybe Mario Chalmers as our backup Greg Anthony.

    Dame/Chalmers
    Crabbe/Hendo
    George/Aminu
    Vonleh/???
    Horford/Davis

Good, straight up perimeter defense involves forcing tough shots. Fouling defeats the entire purpose of playing good defense. Crabbe averages 3.6 fouls per 36 minutes, which is only behind the 4 rotation bigs and Tim Frazier (lol). As a guard, he really shouldn't be fouling that much. By comparison, Gerald only averages 1.7 fouls per 36 minutes.

I'm really not seeing how you came to the conclusion that Henderson looked lost on defense, but it could be that his minutes were kind of sporadic until Stotts took Harkless out of the rotation.

I was talking about the whole team, not specifically Gerald. I think they'd be dissapointed if any rotation player was traded for anything that wouldn't help them this season.

No. This one is silly man :)

    More this one.

As long as the team is in the playoff picture, I prefer not to weaken the team at all for this season. Gerald has been playing well as of late, and dumping him for a single 2nd rounder wouldn't be worth it imho. If Olshea is offered a 1st or 2 or 3 2 second rounder you'd have to do that, but I don't expect an offer that good for him.

But Crabbe creates turnovers, gets steals and alters shots...I don't see him as a huge fouling machine and some of his foul stats are intentional..he takes those Deandre Jordan quick fouls instead of Dame or CJ....very unselfish of him

That's pointless, short-term thinking, with logic with which I completely disagree. If Gerald goes, then Moe gets his minutes, and will likely be comparably effective.

Honestly, I don't see how keeping Gerald even benefits the team in the short-term, let alone in the long-term.

RE the message trading Gerald would send: Depends first on the actual trade, whether it makes us better or worse in the short term.

But if I were Olshey The Slick, I'd tell the remaining guys that trading Gerald shows how much confidence we have in the guys we DIDN'T trade to step in and step up, and it shows we want them as part of our future.

Keeping Hendo means that we are wasting an asset, because I see almost zero chance he re-signs here this summer. It's going to be an Afflalo situation all over again.

You make a strong argument. I do think Harkless and Henderson are two completely types of players though. Harkless looks like the Milwaukee Buck players last night. Long athletic defenders with a suspect outside shot. I can't see us keeping Harkless and Aminu next year. One of them needs to be able to shoot a little better.

He's a solid vet with a motor...helping us win games and given he's missed preseason, training camp and the early part of the season, I think he's worth a 2 year deal. I think he's also a great guy in the locker room and the community. A good fit for the culture we're building here. Harkless is going to backup Aminu..Henderson is not that old...he's got maybe 2 years of prime time for this group. I would take your post and insert Kaman into the sentence.

Again, if he's going to sign here in the off season, he can do so just as easily after we trade him for an asset. He's going to be a UFA, and I seriously doubt we want his cap hold reducing our available space for signing free agents.

Will his cap hold really effect us? We seem to be way under regardless. Especially with it going up. I guess we could be targeting two players.......

All I know is that his cap figure this summer will be $9M, and there's no way we're signing him to a contract starting higher than that, so there would be no benefit to us at all to having his cap hold on our books.

Edit: per Spotrac, our cap figure including our 9 active contracts is a little over $46M, and the three holds they're likely to keep (Leonard, Harkless, Crabbe) total $9.3M more, so with a projected cap of $89M, we'll have about $33M of cap space. Why cut that to $24M for the privilege of holding onto Gerald Henderson's bird rights?

    A few thoughts:

Gerald is not 'good enough' to make a difference this season.
We have other players on our bench who can give us what he does.
He's only going to be here for three more months, after which he's probably going to sign elsewhere.
If he does not re-sign, we get nothing. If we trade him, we get something.
If we want to sign him to a contract after the season, we have the same chance to do so and for the same amount of money, whether we trade him or not.

Conclusion: Trade him for a future or longer term asset.

Aminu has been much better than Harkless. Im pretty sure he sticks around. He can drive to the hoop, hit the three point shot. How can you say he cant score when he basically scored our first 10 points last night?

Who really wants to do that though? Okay, Im your ping pong to bat around... yeah for me.. I might as well throw the rest of the season away.
Come on. No player wants that.

Spot on. But he's not really much of an asset to begin with. I just don't want to have a situation where he leaves for nothing in return. It was bad enough losing LA/Rolo/Wes for capspace. Vonleh will be all we have to show for Nic then.
