...yeah, people sometimes forget what a great pitcher he also was.

...in fact, Baseball may never have evolved into what it is today if not for Ruth.

It is for THAT! very reason that I'd love to see #3 retired across the board. To me, Babe Ruth was the father of baseball.

Never cared for the movies portrayals of Ruth and don't know if this is urban legend but there is a scene in the Goodwin version where Clair Ruth told Ruppert that baseball should kiss Ruths ass for saving the game of baseball.

...they saw it fit to retire #42, but not #3 ?....hmmmm, imagine that.

The best portrayal IMO was the one with William Bendix "The Babe Ruth Story" 1948

I'm afraid they will retire the number for the first openly gay player before they honor #3.

Society is spinning down the drain...you see the revisionist history narrative is that Ruth benefited from an all white league.

I'd agree, and like Michael stated, if not for Ruth during the Black Sox Scandal (during Court hearings), when tickets were NOT being sold & Fan attendance went into a rapid decline...

^^^yup... and still until this day, a reminder about rules forbidding betting on ball games by players and other team employees, is posted in every clubhouse in MLB...this is why I won't cut Rose any slack for what he did.
