Woj says Cavs are looking to unload Varejao's 2yr 19 mil contract on either POR or PHL so that they can get Frye with a trade exception. We would be compensated with draft picks and cash.

I want no part of a two year deal.

    Agreed.

To get an idea why the Cavs are trying to move Varejao, he makes $9.6M this season. The Cavs team salary is at $109,270,293. They are over the tax line by $24,530,293. Their Luxury Tax bill is currently $61,988,599. If they could find a way to eliminate Varejao's $9.6M, that would result in a total savings of over $43M for the Cavs. They certainly have some financial incentive to trim where they can.

I posted this earlier, but here's a breakdown of all of the teams and their current CAP Space / Luxury Tax situation:

Didn't Neil do the exact same thing last year with Cleveland?

Taking on/waiving Haywood did absolutely nothing for this team.

Please move Meyers before the trade deadline. I don't want to lose him for nothing and I don't want to shell out a ton of money on a contract for him this summer.

I find it hard for them to get anyone to take varejaos deal with such crappy assets. But, Kevin love would gladly be taken off their hands :)

What did we get out of that? Cash? No picks? At least his deal was expiring. Varejao still is owed money next year. No need for that.

I wonder if Toronto would be interested in Meyers for Delon Wright and a second rounder?

The Blazers received 2 second round picks (The more valuable of the two second round picks between Minnesota and the L.A. Lakers in 2019, and Cleveland’s second round pick in 2020.) from the Cavs for Miller and Haywood.

We already have two defensive minded forwards that can't shoot.

I'm not so concerned about scoring from the PF position..Blazers have been there, done that for a long time now...and I want the PF to be the best defender on the team..

Gordon isn't really a PF though. He's a tweener like aminu and harkless.

I think he is more Blake Griffin type power forward (OBVIOUSLY not as good) than a tweener.

I haven't seen him play a lot, but trading Meyers for a young talent would be a good move unless you want to pay him and sign him for next season. I think Meyers would benefit from a change of scenery....fans don't seem optimistic about him. He may be much better by the end of his next deal.

If they get him to agree to a $3M buyout and stretch it, his cap hit becomes $1m plus the LT on that.

It looks like Varejao is guaranteed $19M this year and next. Why would Varejao give up $19M for a $3M buyout? If he's betting on making that up in free agency, that a huge gamble on his part, and not many players would take that risk.

Cleveland owns all of its 1st-round picks beginning in 2017.
