If we sign a big free agent this summer, who would you renounce?

?

Who would you renounce to accommodate a big free-agent signing?

  1. Gerald Henderson--he's going to command too much for an aging, athleticism-reliant, backup guard

    37.5%
  2. Maurice Harkless--he's too inconsistent to be a reliable rotation player on a championship team

    4.2%
  3. Meyers Leonard--he's never going to develop the mental side of the game necessary to make an impact

    33.3%
  4. Harkless if we sign a wing, Leonard if we sign a big

    8.3%
  5. Henderson if we sign a wing, Leonard if we sign a big

    12.5%
  6. I couldn't possibly care less--none of them are really worth a damn.

    4.2%

Yeah; I mean you could play all three with Durant at SG in a small ball lineup, but do we really want to expose ourselves like that?

Nope.... Paul AND Durant will be great coming off the bench behind Aminu and Vonleh.

    well, obviously Leonard.

he turned down an initial extension to bet on himself cashing in for more and shown nothing more than last year beyond maybe 1-2 decent games.

he feels entitled, and that's fine. he's entitled to being on the bench somewhere else in the league.

That seems a bit presumptuous. What makes you think he feels entitled to anything?

Kaman likely is a cap hold, unless we renounce any bird type rights we have for him.

What do you think are the chances of the Blazers having even a minute amount of interest in retaining Kaman's bird rights?

I don't know. But I also don't know why he's on the team now :)

I would think if NO wants to re-sign him, he'd do it as quick as possible and surely for less than he's paid now. That would reduce his cap hit to just his new salary instead of 100%+ of his previous salary.

In any case, the assumption on which the OP was based was that ONLY Crabbe, Harkless, Leonard, and Henderson's cap holds are being considered, and that Roberts and Kaman were obviously being renounced.

So...did you not see the poll options of "Hendo/Hark if we sign a wing, Leonard if we sign a big"?

If we keep everyone's rights, then we will have $5,836,025 in cap space.
Renounce Kaman ($6,520,800). That gives us $12,356,825.
Renounce Roberts ($3,711,422). That gives us $16,068,247.

Now the tougher part comes. We need to free up about $27.6M for a mid-tier max player.
Renounce Henderson ($9,000,000). That gives us $25,068,247.

After that, Harkless or Leonard? Renouncing Crabbe doesn't do any good since his hold is minimum ($1,215,696). We have Bird rights to Harkless, Leonard, and Crabbe, along with them being restricted.

Best case, if we really want to keep Harkless, we should sign him first since he probably won't be making $7,235,148. Anything he signs for less than that will give us additional room to sign the max player. If we sign Harkless for $5M, then we've just freed up enough room for a max offer. Then we can go over the cap by signing Leonard and Crabbe if we choose to keep them.

    Simple. :)

Entitled to? Or would likely receive? There's a big difference between the two.
