1. As KingSpeed said, we ain't gonna win them all. That said, this one sucked big time the way it happened and for it to be Houston. 2. This is a young team and it can still be thrown completely off of its game by pressure defense. I expect that we'll see more teams throwing big guards at Dame. He handled it well at times, but Ariza was pretty effective on him the second half. 3. The MVP chant for Dame is pretty cool when appropriate, but a night when his game is off, Harden is a one-man wrecking crew, and national TV is covering the game it's just kind of embarrassing. 4. For the love of James Naismith, don't do a red-out on a night when red is also the team color of the opposing team.
Don't do a "red-out" night ever. Fuck that shit. Let people rock their own jerseys instead of big groupthink fake fan unity bullshit. Big ups to the guy in the neon green shirt keeping it real.
Meh. I think it's cool that we all band together to support the team. IMO it looks cool as shit to see a sea of red or whatever color.
Teams are gonna be doing homework on us and trying to find ways to stop us through tape. Point blank, I still think we need a third guy that can go get you a basket, preferably from a big position.
Eh. I hate him too, but he did well last night. Although, I've never seen a "superstar" that looks so aloof ALL THE TIME... he looks like he's bored all the time.
Things we already knew, but last night reinforced them: 1) Stotts doesn't adjust well on the fly, and that goes for both offense and defense 2) Stotts is stubborn to double team and/or switch up the defense 3) Stotts is overall a good coach but an unlikely to ever win a ring as the man in charge
I didnt learn this... One game ??? really? HAHAHA Sometimes, in a developmental year, its developing the plays too. Maybe it was more important to Stotts to keep the players in the game playing the way they are because regardless of this game, there are things he wants them to learn and/or figure out? Oh yeah. We lost a game. Back to the Stott's sucks thread....
All of the things he referenced has happened in multiple games in multiple years... so it's not so dismissive. It sucks that it happened last night, but it's not an isolated incident, unfortunately.
He didn't have the flexibility in years past. Our bench sucked. So I think he should get a pass on previous years. As for this year, I stand by the development and maybe he is allowing them to work through things on the court. As far as switching the Defense, he has done that alot, but I think people think its because of the offense. Aminu, Crabbe get switched alot. I watch it happen in the games. Leonard and Davis get switched alot. Im not finding the premise that Stotts is unlikely to win and is bull headed.
I still don't see the Rockets as a real threat to the Blazers making the play offs this year. They're so talented they can win on any given night but the players and the fans know the team is going through major roster moves this off season. I'm not a fan of "tanking" on purpose but if they were my favorite team I'd want the lottery pick.
I know from last night a couple things...people will grumble after a loss...people will start doubting the team after two loses and they'll want blood after 3....you're only as good as your last win streak around here! I say...buck up, you lose sometimes, go back, fix the issues from the loss..move on, get the next one and Go Blazers! Rockets actually beat us last night....we didn't lose..they won, remember? Credit them for coming out in the second half and executing their game plan...our backups didn't score well and needed to for us to win
While watching this team apparently play very well, winning a lot of games is fun, I also wonder why the hell Stotts is the coaching this team when we see a game like last night. I watched a program two days ago, reviewing the career of Pete Newell, a man that knew the game very very well as did several of the old school coaches, such as Slats Gill and more. Bill Walton said, Pete Newell is the history of Basketball. I had the privilege of knowing both these men, probably should have learned more from them. But I can still hear them speak when I watch some of these Blazer games when they just are not playing the game right. Now that we are nearing the end of the season, I expect more games to go south for our guard oriented style of play. Pressure the ball on these guys and the Blazers are screwed, their averages are the clue and they have no alternative or the coach does not. He just hopes for the best. Pete Newell could tell you precisely why, and there are other coaches in this league that also know some of these principles of the game. When your ball handling guards are missing more shots than making assist, you are not playing the game well. When you mis more three point shots than you get assists, your making the game easy for your opponent. When you do it repeatedly you have no one coaching.
Geez. Again. One game. Most of the time, we are deadly at 3pt. Nice to see you finally post now that we've lost. Hopefully we go on another winning streak so the negativity can sta afar....
