I dunno; it might be similar to when they made the golf cup wide to help bad putters. Turns out all the great putters were holeing everything and it helped them more. Curry is so accurate from deep the changes might help help him.
A balanced NBA game would value the long shot as much as the close shot. The best three point shooter (like a Kyle Korver) should have roughly the same eFG% as the best two point shooter (like a DeAndre Jordan). When I get time tonight I'll get the average eFG% of the top 30 of each type and see how far unbalanced the game is in either direction.
You bring back hand checking and some of these guards in the league would get a rude awakening. But I'm in favor of it for sure.
I have no problem with professional sports changing with the times. They pretty much always have or we'd be watching basketball with peach baskets, underinflated leather balls and no dribbling at all. The old rule of the game was to never leave your feet period...considered a terrible thing to do in a game. nothing but passing and set shots..sort of like middle school girls basketball
I think there should be another line, further out, but make it a 4 point line. That would do a lot to eliminate the boring, end of game - down by 4 or 5, foul, foul, foul - hope he misses a free throw thing. I hate that, and it never works. Hoist a 35 foot shot!
Globe Trotters have two or three 4pt circles on the court ....I'll check, but they've used those for awhile now. Sort of bullseye 4pt spots
Idle thought: what if shots in a 8 foot circle around the basket were worth 2 points, midrange 8-24 feet were worth 3, 24-32 feet worth 4, and beyond that worth 5? You'd see a lot of 3/4 and full court pressure leading to fast breaks and transition shots. It'd be a completely different sport. I don't expect anyone to like that; this is just a reminder to look into this tonight.
It would make more sense to move the college 3-pt line. Stop encouraging border-line shooters to think they are Reggie Miller.
And what if you dunked yourself with the ball and it was worth ten points . That would really add an element to the game. Maybe small people could play.
