I bet against bears they do.

And moose. I bet there is very little gun violence against moose in California.

Many areas of Idaho have some of the lowest crime rates in the country, if that is a concern to you. (It was for me)

One of the reasons for the low crime rates in Idaho. You can carry a concealed firearm without a permit anywhere on your own property, or, anyone else’s property that gives you permission. There are also many areas outside of city limits where you can carry concealed without a permit. The new law would allow concealed firearms anywhere without a permit, including within city limits. (Where most of the crime is)

2013 Violent crime rates by state per 100,000 inhabitants.

    Arizona........ 405.8
    Washington. 277.9
    Oregon......... 242.9
    Idaho.............204.7

If you want to look up crime rates for a specific city, try the City-Data link below. You can get crime rates for a specific zip code. Click on the state you want, then go to the link at the bottom center of the page below the cities listed.

It appears the crime rate in Flagstaff is slightly higher than average.

Just curious: where did you get those violent crime rates?

602.6 violent crimes for Alaska vs. 396.2 for California?

I'm sorry, I just don't know how much of this I can really take seriously. I mean...what the fuck are Alaskans being so violent over, and where/to whom? Are they assaulting Moose or something? It makes zero sense.

Unless....you want to argue that drug use is a contributing factor in the crime rate? In which case, I suppose I could believe that, since it's an isolated area up there.

I'm a gun owner who would welcome some well conceived gun restrictions that 1) keep firearms out of the hands of people on certain medications or with certain mental diseases or deficiencies, 2) require guns not on ones person to be locked away or secured, 3) registration of all sales, not just ones through firearm retailers. I would also like concealed carry permits to require some competence training in both safety and aim, and I have carry permits in both OR and WA.

And why not? What's so terrible about the US Constitution that it should be ignored or, at the very least, not taken seriously as a document to build on when empowering the people with Inalienable Rights in other countries? Especially developing countries.

I believe our Constitution can be a good model for other countries to build from.

Rape is way off the charts in Alaska. But all areas of violent crime are high in Alaska. Alaska is the most dangerous state in the country. Look at the stats in the FBI link in my post above, to confirm.

LMAO. You apparently haven't seen DC. That city alone has higher crime rates than most States see in 10 years.

Actually, I posted a chart on another thread about a week ago showing how bad the crime is in DC. I believe the DC rate is about double Alaska's. But DC is not considered a state, so it does not show up on many lists. You're comparing a city to a state, apples and oranges.

lol, bro I think DC's crime rate is double everybody; not just Alaska. I mean, 1,281.9 violent crimes! That is fucking insane.

And by the way, population numbers: 735,000 for Alaska....and 38 Million for California.

And Cal has a LOWER crime rate than Alaska? In a SMALLER State?

Sorry. I just can't take such stats seriously in the face of common sense. I just can't. Never mind the fact that Cal is also bordered by 3 States AND Mexico; one of the most violent countries on Earth.

Argue with the FBI, they keep track of the crime stats. I do not vouch for their accuracy. Just passing on info they publish.

    Fair enough.

I have to wonder if much of this is from lack of enforcement of laws? Perhaps it's easier to get away with a crime in Alaska, leading to a higher crime rate?

Beyond that, I'm sorry...it makes zero sense to me.

Have you spent much time in Alaska?

I used to make 2-3 trips per year for business. Took about 10-14 days each trip, and covered many of the Alaska cities each trip.

Alaska is the home to many bad people that ran away from problems in other states. I understand there is one small town that is so full of criminals and is so rough; the state police will not even go there. There are a lot of criminals hiding out in Alaska.

I have also run into many USA criminals hiding out in Baja. If Mexico shipped back all of our criminals that are in their country, our jails could not hold them all. And we complain about their criminals coming here. That problem works both directions.

That's so sad. There is something that much more disheartening about someone brand new, likely going in with the most noble intentions getting gunned down. Just like when there are school shootings or kids are killed, there is just something that much more gut wrenching about losing someone with such a open future.
