Meyers Leonard dropped out of the rotation

Leonard would be playin' if he just shot the ball when he is open, the big sissy . . .

 

On the flip side, Stotts never had Davis guarding Paul Pierce on the perimeter like he did with Meyers for the first half of the season.

 

Any time I have seen him "attempt" to block a shot its always because he has left his man one way or another and he is just running at him with his head down and a hand in the air. its a pretty pathetic attempt at a blocked shot.

 

I dont know why we even talk about his defense, its not like the guy even knows when to shoot or not, and the offensive side of the ball is supposed to be his "strength" he has no instincts, no feel for the game. Its painful to watch sometimes.

 

The blocks stat was surprising. But we've always known Meyers has defensive issues. It doesn't impact his role terribly much.

The big problem last night was him passing up shots. The Pistons were trapping our guards like crazy and leaving Drummond near the hoop. Meyers was wide open but would try to put the ball on the floor and drive? He'd pass to someone with a defender all over him? Shoot the ball! Your open, shoot!

The whole point of playing him is to provide outside shooting. If he won't or can't shoot he has no purpose on a basketball court.

At this rate I'm not sure we even want to give him the $4mil qualifying offer. He looks more like a vet minimum 12th man. Thank gosh we didn't sign him long term!

 

Meyers in a nutshell: Last night at the 3:49 mark of the first period last night. He grabs an offensive rebound and was in perfect position to just go back up and dunk over the smaller Harris. But he never even considers going back up, instead throwing it back out to his teammate. It was one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen from a 7 footer.

 

Yeah, I couldn't believe that play. For every 3 pt shot made, Meyers will give you a " what the hell were you thinking " play.

 

And that's the problem - thinking that he was thinking. What were you thinking?

 

I think I was overthinking, which I also think is a big part of Meyers' thinking processes. Not sure I've ever seen such a smart player with as low of a natural instinct for how to play as a big man.

 

Because he IS intelligent. you can tell just by listening to him talk. He is a smart kid, but maybe not on the BBIQ scale.

 

Yeah I remember that! So many players would've immediately dunked it but Meyers never even looked at the rim.

 

Yeah these are straight instincts. When you play a game with a ball that goes in a hoop; you try and put the ball into the hoop. The most basic plays of basketball are natural reactions.

 

Yeah, I hate how paranoid the Jermaine deal has made the Blazer Front Office (Paul Allen?)

 

If he is ever going to turn the corner, I think the player he should model his game on should be David Robinson.
I'm not saying he's gonna end up being him, but as someone with similar size etc I'd LOVE to see that kind of change happen.

yes, its more likely he'll grow a horn out of his head, wings out of his back and let me ride him into the sunset, but for a classic 7 footer, DR tapes would be a great start

 

He wasn't like this his rookie year. I remember him trying to dunk everything and even getting a few posters down. Hell, his first bucket ever if I recall was an alley oop dunk from Dame.

WTF happened?

This is a Channing Frye esque exodus from inside to behind the 3pt line. In NY his rookie year, Frye absolutely beasted with a deadly combo of inside and outside (but rarely ventured to the 3). Came thru POR to PHX, and he became strictly a 3pt shooter.

Love the 3pt shooting, but not at the cost of stupidity. Meyers had a WIDE OPEN dunk and he threw it out. smh
