George Martin = Beatles. The 5th Beatle. http://www.theguardian.com/music/vi...george-martin-has-died-aged-90-video-obituary
Impeccable ... Martin ushered in the new British wave of sound, ala Beatles, weren't you a body guard at Shea back then Rick ...??
My condolences on the loss of the 5h Beatle, he produced the music that defined you old folks' generation.
...^^^ who do you think defined your generation's music?...and I bet if you asked 20 year olds if they considered you as "old", they'd say yes.
Martins track record of Musical Knowledge and ability exceeded that of most. His success he with the Beatles was his best known "stuff" nut he was out there before and after. The only other artist/producer relationships that were successful would be Hank Williams/Fred Rose and Wesley Rose with Roy Orbison (while with Monument Records.
Jones worked with the upper echelon stuff and no doubt very well. I know he worked with Michael Jackson but not the continuous time frame together. In the case of Martin with the Beatles he started with developing talent and watched them better themselves over time. Ditto the Roses with Hank Williams & Orbison. Another English producer in that vein would be Mike Leander with the Rolling Stones.
I'll confess to respect for Quincy Jones work, however I was not a Michael Jackson Fan. Sharpton will be coming for me I guess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...some of MJ's stuff was OK but let's face it, he didn't write or produce or play instrument of any kind...and it was hard to watch him turn into a complete freak. But without Q's influence I doubt MJ would have enjoyed the same success. ...a little bit of MJ trivia; the brick wall in the background which can be seen in the background at the 3:30 mark of the "Billie Jean" video is the very same wall that was used 4 years earlier in the album cover of his 1979 album titled "Off The Wall".
Looking at that cover people forget that he was once a good looking guy before he started butching himself & becoming the freak he ended up being. As far as his music, I was a fan Especially a song called "Man in the mirror" And he was an incredible entertainer. One of the best ever.
Glen Ballard, the other hit maker, produced "Man in the Mirror"; from the 'Bad' LP. Ballard also produced MJ's 'Thriller' (Billie Jean et al.)... No intent on offending you Ron or any of the other old farts who hold the Beatles as the pinnacle of modern rock.
...I would not expect you to understand an era you did not actually experience yourself. And no one said the Beatles were "the pinnacle of modern rock"...the Beatles owned the 60's, that's it, no more, no less...so I certainly would consider something that happened 50 years ago as "modern".
Ron I couldn't have said it better myself. Well actually I probably could have but I'm being kind. No other group will ever do what they did in such a short period of time (7 years).
