In the minimum wage thread the conversation has turned to illegal immigration, I figure since it is such a prominent topic this election cycle that it deserved its own thread.

Before I launch into my rant I just want to say for the record that my father is an immigrant. He came to this country legally, then after working a few years here he was able to bring his mother, father and brother to this country. After he did that he enlisted in the Air Force and soon became a citizen. He did it the right way, IMO.

    I AM AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

That said, Trump's plan to deport all of the illegal immigrants is comical. It's an oversimplification to a big problem.

Lets break it down and really look at this:

    1. How do we deport them? How do we find them? House by house search? Random stops on the street? Will there be special hot line numbers we can call to report suspected illegals? Do we go on looks? Accents? My father because of his accent has been accused of being an illegal, do lock up people like him until my mother or I can bring to the jail proof of citizenship?

    2. So we are somehow able to lock up all of the illegals, what about their children that were born here? Children that are now US citizens? I know, Trump is claiming that he's talked to legal experts and he's saying that they're not citizens, but once again that's comical.

Here's some shocking news, not all of the children born to illegals are children anymore. They've been working and paying taxes. Do we strip their citizenship and deport them too? And if they have children and/or grandchildren born here do we strip their citizenship and deport them too? If the children of illegals aren't legal than their children aren't legal, right?

But if Trump's legal experts aren't correct and these children are citizens do we keep them? Send them to the country of their parents? Will those countries even take them? Do we put them into orphanages? Foster homes? Can we kick US citizens out of the country because of a crime their parents committed? Who the hell is going to pay for that? Wait, we'll make the parents of the illegals pay for that! We'll keep their children but won't allow the parents to see them unless they pay for us to keep them! If they'll pay for a wall they'll pay to see their kids!

Immigration is a much more complex issue than what is being bantered about. A big part of the problem is the companies that hire them.

One of my neighbors is an illegal, lives a few houses down in a home he purchased in 2007 on a variable interest rate mortgage that has been at 12% for years. The bank knows he's an illegal, that's why they won't refinance the loan. He works two jobs, one he works graveyard as a "private contractor" doing maintenance and repairs on the local McDonald's milkshake and french fry machines, the other job he works for a landscape company. The landscape company won't pay him if their clients don't pay them. He's done the work, he'll be right back at the exact same place the next week doing the work but every month there are always jobs he doesn't get paid for because his boss claims he didn't get paid for them. No benefits, retirement, workers comp, vacation, sick leave, now yes, he's here illegally and even without those things he's far better off than if he had remained in Mexico but aren't both of these businesses using and profiting off illegals?

Shouldn't there be some sort of penalty for the businesses that are using illegal immigrants?

Again, this is similar to saying we're going to end the war on drugs by locking up and throwing away the key on everyone who uses illegal drugs. We're not going to go after the drug dealers, we'll just ignore them. If we lock up the users the dealers won't have anyone to sell to, problem solved!

I left out why the bank won't refinance, he had an Oregon Drivers License, then in 2000 something they changed the law in Oregon on what it took to get or renew your drivers license. His license was good for 8 years, once it expired he was no longer able to renew it because of the new law. Now that he no longer has valid ID he can't refinance his home mortgage.

Honest question, do you think Trump actually believes all this shit or do you just think he's saying off-the-wall things to rile people up?

I seriously wonder if he didn't run originally as a shill for Hillary, but things have gone so well that he's staying in it for the hell of it.

    FWIW,

I thought Trump killed it in the debate last night.

Rubio is clearly a super smart fellow.

Kasich is easily the best qualified for the job, and a good guy to boot.

I'm not going to vote for Trump. No chance.

A good place to starts is anyone that goes to jail without a valid ssn gets booted immediately. That would solve a lot of the problem by itself. Why deport people who are contributing to society? Get rid of the ones that have dui's and shit and cant prove they belong here.

You could also have a simple cooking test. If you make a bomb ass chicken mole, you stay.

It can be called the mole and stay initiative. It's catchy, and delicious.

Once again we are looking at parts of a problem and ignoring the main problem.

I view this just like gay marriage. I say get rid of marriage as a state granted union, now you can marry who ever you want using what ever ceremony you please without state's permission.

I the same way the whole illegals not paying taxes shit could be solved by dismantling the IRS which is an unconstitutional entity in the first place.

Props to your pops for doing it the right way.

I think the only way you can make it work is to grant amnesty to all of the people here. It's not usually the most popular solution amongst conservatives. But it's the easiest and least expensive option. Plus it will let them feel like citizens of our country instead of red headed step children.

After amnesty, you could build a wall even though most are against, or you could enforce border patrol substantially more to ensure illegal immigration doesn't happen.

I have absolutely no problem with people immigrating here. It's not fair that just because Mexico borders the US that they can make the trek here and become our immigrants by illegally crossing the border.

As much as Denny wants to open the floodgates for everyone to live here, it's just not possible.

Don't tell me you're a "we the people" person.

Most illegal immigrants do pay taxes. That's what a ITIN is for.

We first need to make Mexico bring their driver's licensing and ID into the 21st century. When you could still go to Mexico with just a driver's license, when you rented a car they could check if your ID was valid. Illegals come here with no ID. We need a better way to verify the individuals coming here.

Also we need to get a better sort of banking relation going. Illegals not having access to US banks is not a good idea. The transferring of money internationally via Western Union needs to come to an end. This is just as much for our security as it is for their convenience. Knowing to who and how much when sending money is a damn good thing to know and keep track of.

Since illegals do claim many more dependents than they actually have we should look at doubling the SS tax withholding on non E-verified employees. We also need to upgrade the capabilities of the E-verify program.

Amnesty needs to be earned and not given. A proper Mexican issued ID, then a state or Federal issued ID, fingerprints taken and then after a criminal records check they can be a documented guest worker. From there they would still have to apply for a green card.

Not sure if a wall needs to be built, it's a bit depressing to think that the greatest public works project in this country's history would be a wall to keep some Mexicans out. That said, increased border security is needed. If we can drone strike our "allies" in Pakistan we can drone strike the smugglers and coyotes bringing Mexicans to the border. It's not too hard to tell the difference between the coyotes and the immigrants, the coyotes are the ones leading the immigrants and then staying behind when they get near the border.

Maybe killing people with drones is a bit much....

Not if they have 9 fake socials to write off they end up taking more than they pay. Not all of them do it obviously but Ive seen it done. Hell my sister gets like 8 grand back every year because of 2 legal dependants and she cant make more than 25k a year. I know damn well her check isnt 1/3rd taxes.

True but do you really want to go after illegal immigrants trying to file under an itin? The majority of them make nothing on farms out in the middle of nowhere.

If the IRS needs to go after anyone, it's the dealers not filing tax returns and making millions

Its like people who argue why fix welfare and food stamps when more money is wasted on defense or farm subsidies. If there are 6 holes in my boat of different sizes, I want all those mother fuckers plugged at once cause any one of them will sink me.
