And remember, Vonleh has only been in 88 games for his career. I really think next year is his time to shine. As for this year, I think coming off the bench would better suit him. Though, I don't really call him a "starter" either... he is, but not much of one.
for me, an inopportune time is when it causes a momentum shift, breaks up some good momentum. Maybe that applies more to the turnovers, his fouls often seem unnecessary and sometimes caused by his overaggressiveness (but usually not effective aggression).
I agree that next year is his "show it" year. At least CJ (and even Meyers) showed, at minimum, glimpses of great play early on.
Vonleh has shown some great glimpses on D, on the other side of the ball though he has shown very little.
He's not out there to score. He's starting because he can stretch the floor while also playing arguably the best D of our bigs. Meyers CAN'T guard PFs and Plums is a WAY smarter player. It's really that simple.
Agree with everything you said in this thread and others about Meyers Leonard. I sometimes wonder if Meyers Leonard fans actually watch him play during the games. People provide a lot of statistics, but do they actually see how lost he is on defense?
Yeah he does. With Plums the defender doesn't care about the pop and they cheat around him Same with Davis. No chance whatsoever that he is going to catch and shoot. So he can't break the double at all. The screen becomes ineffective. I see it time and time again.
Starting Aminu-Harkless-Plumlee/Davis is way better than starting that scrub Leonard at whatever position
Meyers is playing better; at center. If we play OKC maybe we can start him at PF against Ibaka. I'd be happy to have the Thunder try and force the ball to Ibaka instead of giving it to Durant/Westbrook. But there's no way Meyers can guard Blake Griffin, Draymond Green or LaMarcus Aldridge. It would be a disaster. We should bench Vonleh soon but the Plumlee/Meyers duo only works in a few specific matchups. It'll be interesting to see what we do. Regardless of who starts I see Meyers, Plumlee, Ed all having the big man minutes. It'll be interesting how often we play small ball too.
