Mexico is mounting an unprecedented effort to turn its permanent residents in the U.S. into citizens, a status that would enable them to vote -- presumably against Donald Trump.

Officially, Mexico says it respects U.S. sovereignty and has no strategy to influence the result of the presidential race. Yet Mexican diplomats are mobilizing for the first time to assist immigrants in gaining U.S. citizenship, hosting free workshops on naturalization.

The election's in only 7 1/2 months, and the naturalization process takes longer than that.

Why doesn't Mexico just buy off the computer programmer in each state who counts the votes, like the CIA does.

Well, good at least they wont be illegal. All this hoopla about ILLEGAL immigration. As if we're just overlooking the fucking laws around here. Blows my mind, apparently everyone is racist if they're for the law. Why does USA want people that can't follow the laws in this country? /shrug

You should try reading the article. There are Mexicans that are here legally. Those are the ones they're talking about helping to get US citizenship. There is nothing the Mexican government can do to make illegals US citizens.

The people who are permanent residents did it legally. They didn't overlook "the fucking laws around here", they followed them.

I respect a person that enters the USA legally, for as long as they participate legally within our system. However, people entering the country illegally or overstaying their visa should not be treated the same as a legal immigrant.

Trump’s self proclaimed “very good brain (quote from OP article)” does not have a clue.

How is building a wall going to solve the illegal immigration problem?

There are many ways to enter and stay in the USA illegally. Building a wall would only be an expensive symbolic gesture. It will only be an expensive monument to the builder (Trump), but not a real deterrent to people that want to enter the USA illegally.

I have one solution that would solve two problems talked about in the OP article. The illegal immigration problem and balance the foreign trade playing field. I call it an eye for an eye law.

People entering the USA illegally, or overstaying their visa, will be given the same penalty and lose the same benefits as a USA citizen that enters their country illegally. We treat illegal immigrants too well, while our citizens get abused in other countries for the same offense. An eye for an eye.

The same eye for an eye rule applies to foreign trade. Countries that make it very difficult for USA companies to do business in their country will have the same hurdles placed on them to do business in the USA. Take that Japan. An eye for an eye.

Not hard to get a lots of the illegals to self deport. Just turn off all the food stamps, drivers permits, health care and other subsidy programs intended for citizens.

Just like feeding pigeons, when you stop all the seed, they look elsewhere.

The U.S. Social Security Administration estimated that in 2013 undocumented immigrants—and their employers—paid $13 billion in payroll taxes alone for benefits they will never get. They can receive schooling and emergency medical care, but not welfare or food stamps.

Go down to the welfare office, claim you're an illegal with no state issued ID and see if you can sign up for food stamps.

    Estimated. heh.

I think the point is; everyone disagrees with illegal immigration (except Denny). It's just a difference of opinion on how to handle the situation.

But to insinuate someone racist/bigot; and mount a complete national offensive (mexico) to sway political change in the country is a little outlandish. People say "stop the hate", but I say "stop the crime". Mexico doesn't like whats going on here? Then make people come here legally.

Mexico prisons will provide inmates only with food they pay for, or is brought in for them from outside the prison. No money, no eat.

Why should we pay to feed the illegal Mexican immigrants in our holding camps? Mexico does not feed USA citizens in their jails.

For first time offenders, Mexico has one of the best criminal rehabilitation programs in the world. When a young person gets into trouble and lands in jail, often it is his grandmother that brings him food each day, along with a daily lecture.

You know I lived next door to an illegal immigrant from Mexico who worked 80 hours a week and told me his wife got food stamps, he said he could get fake documents in a day.

I'm sure he is the only one who can get fake docs.

The point of the link I'm adding is that nobody knows the true cost of illegal immigration. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/illegal-immigrants-cost-us-100-billion-year-group/story?id=10699317

So you want Mexican grandmas to illegally come here to feed their imprisoned illegal grand kids? And you want this to happen daily.

I'd rather McDonalds and any other company that hires them feed them.

    I'm against illegal immigration.

I'll say it again, I'm against illegal immigration.

But just like some of the responses in this thread show there is a ton of misinformation out there. There are some that don't even know what a permanent resident is. We can't fix the problem until we understand the problem.

They do. Those workers steal food from the companies like it's nobodies business.

And by those workers I mean most people working the minimum wage jobs at fast food restuarants. They usually get a meal, and then they usually take food home with them even if they aren't supposed to.

Mexican grandmothers always have the best pot, their favorite pain killer.

Or the families in Mexico can send money to pay for the food the illegal immigrants eat. That is how USA citizens get feed in Mexican prisons. Family or friends send food money from the USA.
