The question is, does Portland make an offer to him this summer or let him go? I would let him go honestly

...yeah, agreed, unless he is willing to take significantly less money than what a foolish overpaying GM is sure to offer him just to stay with the team that drafted him and continue "baking this cake"!

    LEONARD TO UNDERGO SHOULDER SURGERY
Fourth-year forward has competed in 61 games for Portland this season

PORTLAND, Ore. (March 24, 2016) Portland Trail Blazers forward Meyers Leonard will undergo surgery to repair his injured left shoulder and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, the team announced today.

The surgery is scheduled to be performed on Friday, April 8 by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

A prognosis on Leonard's return will be made following the procedure.

Through 61 games this season, Leonard is averaging 8.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

I wouldn't just let an asset go for nothing, unless a team gave him some crazy contract. You could always trade him later (ala Tobias Harris)

This will give him a chance to work on that 3pt shot in the off season.

So we can use our cap space to resign him and trade for Ersan Illyasova? What a great idea!

Feel bad for him as a person.

A part of me is glad I don't have to watch him play for my favorite basketball team anymore this season. Its a bit evil but the truth.

His qualifying offer is only ~$4 million so I think we give him that. With Plumlee and Davis it basically slots Meyers as our third string center. Maybe he can become a quality backup one day but he isn't there yet and has a lot to prove in order to do so.

He's had major injuries over a couple of seasons now. If we can use free agent money to sign a starter or a quality backup at any position let Meyers walk. If a team overpays him let him walk. If teams have little interest in him and his contract is cheap I guess we could consider bringing him back.
