What does Olshey do? Plumlee has been so up and down I have no idea what to think. Maybe he's worn out, but he's not looking like Portland's answer at C. He might be better at PF. If I had to guess though, I think Olshey packages Plumlee and a pick for Greg Monroe.
First Lopez and now Plumlee, I'm not used to Blazer centers not being injured most of the season. This is all very confusing.
I'd rather just use our cap space to sign a free agent. For a Monroe trade we have to give up what; Plumlee, a pick, and use our cap space to absorb Monroe's max contract? Monroe is such a disaster on defense it creates as many problems as it solves. Monroe can opt out of his contract next summer. He will want to be paid $30+ million so it ends up being either a one year rental or we're forced to overpay for a player with flaws. I too have concerns about Plumlee long term; but between him and Ed center is our second deepest position. If we add a center I want one that can defend; basically another Ed Davis. If we added an offensive forward we'd be set.
The thing about Monroe is he gives you "easy" buckets. He's also a matchup problem for golden state. Monroe's defense is still better than Plumlees and he's also a better rebounder, especially offensively.
I think we can move Plums/Vonleh/?? for something useful. This is going to be a really interesting offseason.
It is one because he still does a lot of good things and looked really good earlier in the year. The dilemma is how much will his game improve? What's his ceiling? There's no reason why that guy can't become a good defender. Remember, this is the first time he's had a consistent role/minutes in the league. There will be improvement next year. Question is how much
First I'd be very concerned about his defense. Why has his teams always been in the lottery? Now the Pistons are in the playoffs and the Bucks are in the lottery which isn't entirely a coincidence. We'd have to change the entire offense with Monroe in it. Yeah he gets easy buckets, but how many sets have to be run for him to get the ball instead of pick and roll's for our guards? Dame and CJ wouldn't be scoring 20 ppg. Post players aren't as valuable in the modern NBA. Looks at Boogie, Brook Lopez, those teams struggle. The modern NBA is dominated by pick and roll with 3 point shooting. We could use a third offensive creator with screens or pick and roles. We need bigs who defend. Worrying about mathing up with Golden State when we aren't a HCA team is silly. Even so I don't see how Monroe running all over the court trying to defend Draymond Green is a matchup advantage for him. It's not that Monroe doesn't have some value; its that he's on a max contract, will be due a huge raise a year from now, and his team will want an asset in return. If for some reason Milwaukee dumps him for nothing sure do it. But he's not an all-star level talent thats worth giving up multiple assets for.
I vividly remember one possession tonight where Plumlee had position down low and was calling for the ball, but the team opted for a 3 point shot instead. If he's going to develop down low he needs to be fed in those situations where he want's the rock. If he's calling for it he probably feels capable, and if he feels capable lets see what he does.
Monroe was the reason the Bucks beat Golden State this year. Draymond struggles against low post scorers, but lucky for him there aren't that many left in today's NBA. Doesn't mean they're not valuable. Monroe is also a great passer, so it's not like the ball would die in his hands. I think it would be a good move, and there's a reason why Olshey has been trying to acquire him for years.
Al Jefferson is a UFA this summer. If he came at a reasonable price, I'd really like him as our backup center. Charlotte kind of ran him into the ground the past 3 years. He's only 31 though.
Advanced stats say Monroe is an average defender. Could he and Davis coexist offensively? Because Davis could guard both big man spots and leave Monroe with the easier assignment. Would leave us with near max cap space. We could pursue a SF or maybe Al Horford, who would fit great with Davis or Monroe. Hell, you find a way to throw in Aminu into the Monroe (or another) deal and you might have enough cap space for a SF and a big man
Meyers and Ed Davis are probably two of the 5 best backup bigs in the league. It really sucks we've lost Meyers for the season.
I think he's close to his ceiling, which is fine. He's got good enough skills. Is he an elite C? No. Is he good enough to have been our C last year with LMA? More than good enough. So it depends on the rest of the lineup. IMO
Why do we want to get rid of one of our better players? I wanna keep plumlee and davis. Vonleh and Leonard are the bigs that can go. We need a scoring and good defending pf. Paul Millsap is perfect (sucks he isn't going to be a fa)
