My biggest concern with Cousins is that we have Dame. They could be a horrible pairing. Dame's defense is really an issue as we need above average defenders at all three frontcourt spots. Does Cousins offense outweigh his defensive problems? I'm not sure his low percentage shots are the benefit his PPG would suggest. Dame scores in pick and roll. Cousins is a drop it into the post scorer. None of the post center teams have success in the modern NBA; Cousins, Brook Lopez, Jahlil Okafor, Nikola Vucevic.

I wonder if a SF who could sometimes be a third pick and roll creator along with defensive bigs would be more beneficial to this team.

Hmmmm, sounds like a bad performance on a 2nd game of a back to back.

It's the same amount of outside shooting except for CJ....one player. They are barely at .500 with 'all' that outside shooting and any other season in the West wouldn't be sniffing the Playoffs. DeRozan is a FT machine and wouldn't cost any assets except money. Cousins isn't a great defender but this team just went through a stretch where they were giving up 115+ to anyone with a pulse.

I'm not a huge fan of Cousins and I like our players to but to get one half of one of the best back courts in the league (yes we have one of those three as well) for nothing but cash AND add a top-3 big man in the entire league....if I put down my homer Blazer media hat, that just seems way more balanced to me and helps take some of the wear and tear off of Dame.

Yeah, his worst game of the season. I'm sure it had nothing to do with Meyers Leonard's defense. It's the NBA, every team plays back-to-back games. That's a lame excuse for the "best big man in the game" getting outplayed by our soft, back-up stretch 4. The media, both POR and SAC, his coach and his teammates all praised Leonard's defense on Cousins as being key to the Blazers win and although Cousins refused to give Meyers much credit, he did admit he got under his skin (which we all saw when Cousins cocked back his fist after Meyers fouled him).

I know you hate Meyers and have a man crush on Boogie, but I don't want to give up anything significant for a max. contract mental midget that gets mind-fucked by Meyers Leonard. Yeah, if we can get him cheap, you take a chance, but otherwise no thanks. Too many red flags. He's been suspended multiple times under multiple coaches, including twice this season, for conduct detrimental to his team. He's nearing the end of his 6th season in the league, but still exhibits the same immaturity did as a 20-year rookie. He needs to grow the fuck up and stop blaming everyone else (his coaches, his teammates, the refs, etc.) for his failures.

The guy scores 56 points, takes a shower, get on a flight, does a practice and then you expect him to score 30 on the Blazers?
Mayers did a nice job, i'll give him that, but Cousins torched guys like DeAndre Jordan, let's not get carried away here.

And i never said we need to offer anything too big for him, only guys not named Lillard or CJ.

So we lose 50% of our outside shooting... no thanks

Thing is he's not a "max player". He's making $10M less

Actually, he is a max player in that he's making the maximum allowed under the current CBA. He signed a max extension back in 2013:

    DeMarcus Cousins signs extension

"The Kings signed Cousins to a four-year maximum contract extension on Monday, saying the 23-year-old center is the foundation the franchise will build on to lead a struggling team into a new era."

There are other players making more, but he's making the maximum allowed based on his circumstances. He has two more seasons left on that extension and I'm sure someone will throw a max contract at him when he becomes a free agent that will make him one of the highest players in the league.

Well you're both right; he was a max player back in 2013; but now he is paid $10 million less than the current max. But yeah likely get a huge pay increase on his next contract. There's literally 20 different levels of max contracts.

Yep, the definition of max contract is in near constant flux. It depends on many variables, including BRI - basketball related income, which fluctuates from year to year and will soar when the new TV contract kicks in. So, while Cousins looks like a relative bargain, he got the max he could get at the time he signed his contract.

If the Kings wouldn't take D'Angelo Russell (+ others) for Cousins this past summer, what makes you think they'd give him up for CJ?

Russell wasn't last summer, unless Vivek Ranadive is clairvoyant.

I think theres always the stigma of a proven player vs an incoming draft pick... to an extent. And there also has been a greater disconnect between Cousins and the team his season.

Is that really accurate? He's been suspended multiple times in the past, under different coaches and different ownership for conduct detrimental to the team. Seems like the the one constant is Boogie is repeatedly "disconnected" from his coach and front office, no matter who they may be.

I wouldn't move Brian Roberts one seat to the right to make room for Cousins.

He reminds me of Sheed except he is not seeking most technical foul status stat He dislikes most but he may like a change of attitude in the RIP city
