What you're getting wrong is simply not understanding what white privileges. I tried to explain it to you before but you continue to refuse to let any of what I say sink in. Again: When a racist employer sees: Damany Iqwé next to Nathaniel Bishop and chooses you over me because of that, you've experienced White Privilege without even knowing you did. This happens with jobs, housing etc. I'm curious as to why you believe that all white people (at least those with "normal" names) wouldn't experience this privilege.
It's both. You are experiencing not being discriminated against because you are white. White Privilege is a symptom of racism.
Some people just can't take it when the conversations (we DESPERATELY need to have) are had. What others don't understand is that it's true for white people that they can just check out of the conversation and not give a shit. It's a privilege that z Nate just prescribed above. But there are some of those who cannot. Nate should really look up Jane Lewis and blue eyed/brown eyed experiment.
I understand what white privilege is. The issue isn't a hypothetical situation where I'm beating out some other hypothetical person for a hypothetical job. The issue is you assuming that ALL white people have had this situation play out. You don't know that, and the fact that you don't understand that attributing this to ALL white people is racist, is the problem. I'm sure there are millions of white people with names other than what you consider to be "normal" names. Do those people experience white privilege?
It's kinda like assuming most white people are racist because they don't know what it's like to grow up black in america. Neither is conducive to ending racism in the world.
White Privilege doesn't mean you get a free hand in life. It simply means that you don't have to experience the day-to-day things that people of color do. I'm not understanding why this is so hard for people to wrap their heads around I'm sorry for what your dad experienced on the res. That's actually the same thing in reverse that I'm talking about. Hate creates more hate. I will ask however, did your dad get to move away from the reservation? Many of the natives that have been banished there do not get to and their school system sucks so there is no upward mobility.
Not at all. Just because you experience the privilege of being white doesn't mean that you're racist. I know plenty of white people to understand this. I don't think you have a clue of what White Privilege is. Your posts bear this out. Again, you are never redlined simply because of your name. If you don't understand that as a privilege then I don't really know what to say... you will never get it...
The thing about the concept of white privilege is that it's almost impossible for those experiencing it to perceive it. It almost by definition HAS to be identified by someone who is not white. I would venture to assume that the term was created by someone who was not white. Therefore, we white people are at a natural disadvantage in attempting to even understand the concept of white privilege, let alone define or identify it, since it essentially exists outside of our sphere of experience. What non-whites call "white privilege", whites simply call "life". It's like trying to explain pitch to someone who is tone deaf. How can they understand the difference between an F sharp and a B flat if all tones are essentially the same to them?
When you told Yuyza1 above to not click on the thread, you essentially told him to do something in real life that we cannot do. In real life when "race issues" happen (blacks bring to light mistreatment they experience) white people (ALL of them) can simply not click on the thread and ignore them. We do not have that privilege.
That is your stupid interpretation not mine. Passing it off as fact is very Trump like. Edit: thought this was the post referring to your racism interpretation. Which was nowhere near the realm of reality.
So then White privilege is a false term since it refers to the basic right that all people SHOULD be entitled to. Kinda like when bigots want to call equal rights for homosexual people "Special rights". Got it.
Listen man, I'm not debating that white privilege exists. You don't seem to understand that. I'm talking about YOUR behavior. You make racist comments about white people all the time, and then you try to hide behind the definition of white privilege. If you don't see that, fine, but stop being the PC Police because you're one of the worst violators of your own moral code.
Don't know about it being a false term, but I'd agree with the rest of it. We also have male privilege and straight privilege and gender-identity privilege, because we benefit from being straight males whose brains and genitals match. Lucky us.
