Not many studio hosts outside of Chuck coulda pulled that off. Wish Ernie was there instead of the other clueless dude who kept interrupting
The white dude was a chode. The players are talking life, and that douche is going for the headlines.
Eh, not just ring shopping. He told him to make sure he locks in his last big contract to take care of his family. If he goes to Dallas..... not a good move. That team is done.
Sounds a bit scripted to me, like he's spent the entire season working with his agent what to say on TNT, and allowed his basketball to fall off because of it. Damn I hope it is true though. He's a beast and if he can get back to where he was mentally, and stay healthy physically then he would make us a contender. Portland could be the perfect place for him if he truly wants to focus on basketball. I love that about our culture here because I think that's how it should be. You're a professional athlete and during the season your focus should be on basketball. You have the entire off season to spend your millions on a vacation of your choosing, and if you're dicking around off the court during the season then you will have a much longer vacation. It will automatically be suspect to me if Dwight signs somewhere like LAC, Miami, Dallas. But if he goes somewhere like POR, IND, WAS, or ORL, then I will be more inclined to think that his head is in the right place. He wouldn't really do much for our problems spacing the floor in the front court. I think he's probably a much better pick and roll player than Plumlee. Him and Dame could do some serious damage. I wanted Howard big time when he left the magic. I thought we would have won a championship with that roster if he came here. Dame Wes Batum Aldridge Howard Center always was the glaring hole for those few years until we got Lopez. Had we gotten Howard instead I think we would have seen success much earlier. I think it would definitely be worth while for both parties to at least meet in the off-season and see if this is the type of culture he wants to be a part of. If we sign him I will trust that Dame and Olshey have properly vetted him, and then maybe drive to Vegas and make a little bet while the odds are still good.
Early in the interview Chuck told him he's in the back nine of his career and essentially said he should go ring shopping because he's had a great career and a ring should be his top priority. Later on Chuck said Dwight has to opt out for a big contract in case he gets injured. Not mutually exclusive. Portland can give him both.
Plus when Dwight was talking about his first priority before worrying about a contract is to get into the gym and start working out for next season, his attitude made me think of Dame.
You knew you were in big trouble when you were looking him eye to eye before tip off. Dude was a serious beast, but I honestly don't know if he can get back to that... There's no way people could double him in Portland... Dame or CJ pass it into him from the corner, you leave either one of them and you are giving up 3 points instead of 2.
Okay, so let's say we sign Dwight. We still need a power forward that can space the floor. Man.... if Dallas strikes out this summer, and if Parsons were to go somewhere else, I would make a pitch to Cuban. Mark, you're not going to win another ring for Dirk. It's not happening. Send him to us for Plumlee/Vonleh and we will get him a ring. Do it Mark. Do it for Dirk. Dame/?? CJ/Crabbe Aminu/Harkless Dirk/Davis Dwight/Meyers
What about plumlee at PF? Might seem like there's no spacing but imagine plumlee in the high post lobbing it to dwight. Easy money.
If Plumlee could make a jumpshot? Sure. Plumlee has zero range. None. You can't have both of them with zero range. The pick and pop used to be such a huge staple for us. We have really missed it.
What about Meyers at the 4? If we have Dwight at the 5 instead of Meyers we don't need Meyers to be doing much in the paint on offense. Definitely can make the lobs to Dwight too.
Meyers can't defend the four. Aminu is actually not a bad option at the four. I think we could do better though.
Yeah he's probably better suited as a backup, but I guess he still has room to improve on defense, just not sure the ceiling is high enough.
Plumlee is high IQ and very coachable. If he spends the summer in Portland with Lillard, CJ and Meyers he'll learn to shoot.
