I paid a ticket very recently, went to the clerk, asked to speak to the judge and was immediately sent in. Granted, that was in Walla Walla, and small town life is different, but in either case you don't need to be a dick to the clerk. You can lodge a complaint in a nice way. In that case you at least get a chance to talk to someone higher up. Dumping pennies and running away without explanation doesn't get any chance at finding someone with sway or power.

From my experience, the chances of a judge throwing out a ticket are slim to none. They're part of the machine.

We should pay our S2 membership fees in pennies.

And what's the chance of getting out of a ticket if you dump out the money in pennies and run?

I do understand what he was doing, and I don't have a problem with the point. I just have a problem with him being a dick

You aren't getting out of the ticket, that's the point.

I'm not talking about him specifically. I'm saying that if you wanted to protest the revenuing that towns/cities do through their police departments, this could be one way to do it. It's non-violent. It makes a statement. He's obviously getting attention.

You guys are hung up on him being a dick. I'm fine with him being a dick. He didn't berate her. Do you know how many times someone yelled at me when I was a customer service rep on the phone? It ruins your day. Some guy dumping pennies is much preferred to being screamed at. Sorry. He didn't get violent. He didn't break things. He was pissed so he paid his fine in the most passive aggressive way possible. I'm fine with that.

Did you hear the story of the guy who had a Bank of America branch closed down because they wouldn't leave him alone?
    http://abcnews.go.com/Business/bank...closed-angry-homeowner-bofa/story?id=13775638

That guy kept people from getting to work. Was he being a dick? Those people I'm sure were counting on those jobs, and they couldn't work while things were sorted out. He cost people money that I'm sure they needed to live.

He said in the video he went to court and a jury found him guilty. At that point there isnt anything you can do. He was being a whiney cunt becahse even a jury of his peers said he was in the wrong.

I admit its a grey area. Yes, those people at the bank were in limbo for a few, but i suppose there is a difference in my mind since one action (at the bank) had the possibility of a result and the other (pennies) didn't. But I am sure you can find other examples that I would support that might not affect change but I'd still agree with, but overall the tie goes to the non-dick. You aren't wrong, it's a difference of opinion between us. As I said, I understand what he was doing, I just don't like it and I think there are many actions he could have taken that would have been more focused on those with power (just like the bank actions were directed at people with power).

Seriously though, you said that you've worked in customer service. Which would you prefer from an angry customer:

Option A) Angry customer screams at you for 10 to 15 minutes and calls you mean names. Threatens to talk to your manager.

Option B) Angry customer drops off a bunch of pennies that you can run through a machine and leaves without a confrontation?

He did go 9 mph over in a 30mph zone, right? I watched one video briefly yesterday, so perhaps he gave reasons why this was not worthy of a ticket. And yes, that could have been (and most likely was) policing for profit, but it could also be that he was dangerous. In my last neighborhood there was a 25mph road with bunches of kids playing on it and some of the parents would call and complain frequently about speeders, including those going 5mph over. I don't know the circumstances. But douche be a douche! 22,000 pennies for your thoughts?

Haven't you ever heard the 9 mph rule!?! As long as you're not going 10 mph over the limit, you're safe! I wonder if he tried that defense in court.

When someone is THIS upset that they go to this much trouble, it certainly is an either/or.

Hell, someone THAT upset might just decide to shoot up the office. You never know. My point is, this is easily the least confrontational option for a guy that clearly has anger issues.

I drive under the speed limit in my neighborhood. Lots of kids with shitty parents let them play in the street way too young. Sure, it inconveniences me slightly but i would hate to hit a kid, regardless of whose fault it would be. People like to say speed limits are too low ect. But that doesnt change the fact speeding is speeding. If the limit is posted it's the limit. People should really learn to slow down in all aspects of life, but our society is built around being a self absorbed wiener.

In my line of work i deal with the screamers all day. Im a rare breed that fucking loves the tears though. It's because i truly dont care about the person crying. The more you cuss at me and threaten my life, the more victorious i feel. I live for that shit.

When I'm driving through my neighborhood, I go the speed limit (which is 25) and I can't believe how many people tailgate me. It's a freaking neighborhood people! Who raised these assholes?
