    That was my first thought as well, but honestly after not too long he probably went into shock and couldn't feel a thing. At least that's what I hope for their sake.

    There was a similar incident in Maui about 5 years ago. A man was too near a blow hole as a wave hit him from behind and pushed him into it.

    Not like this is an ordinary or likely way to die, barring drugs or stupidity.

    Murder, or manslaughter seems the most likely cause.

    And 2 football fields off the boardwalk is not just "walked off the boardwalk and slipped in".
