That's just one example. And yes, it discredits your entire list when you feel the need to stretch the truth that much to try to make a point.

You were being critical of someone listing names of people who have retired recently... But it's okay for you to do that? If you really want to compare a season in the 80's or 90's to 2016, then do that. Don't make a misleading list that spans multiple generations.

Yes I know he's not on par with those guys, that's my point. And yes most of the players in the NBA are, and have always been, role players.

Are someone of you going to go back and clean up your personal attacks or am I just doing to start deleting posts?

I didn't call him an idiot. I said that if someone denies logic to appease their own personal bias, then that makes them an idiot. If he took offense to that, that's not my problem. Delete it if you want I guess.

Meh.. Would have been a great continuation if certain people didn't act like know it all's belittling anyone who had a differing opinion.... but then how the hell could I expect that from here?

Recently? I guess everything is relative. But the discussion is about today's NBA, so I don't think guys like Iverson/Camby/etc really qualify. I'd say those are stars from a previous era, even if it wasn't the 90s. Kobe played this season, but when you think about Kobe his era was a decade+ ago. Ditto Duncan.

Denny's provided some. I have yet to see the other side of the argument put together a list that rivals either my list or Denny's.

Hating on younger generations has been goin on forever, it just hasn't been publicly shamed like other forms of hate. But in the end, it's still just ignorant hate because people are scared of change.

People denied that Jordan was great for quite some time.... People still deny that Kobe is great. Mostly Jordan lovers... People still deny that lebron is great. Mostly Kobe lovers...

Now we have to define what "great" is because those players are all "greats", no matter what. Their stats, longevity, and accolades speak for themselves. AKA the facts. All the other stuff is displaced.

If you wanna feel special, and think that your favorite generation of basketball players were the best, then cool, feel special. But this argument that people are less talented today is fucking stupid. And if you deny that, then I feel sorry for you.

How does one rational mind equate an opinion about level of talent as hate, if that opinion differs from someone else?

My god the leaps and bounds of our youth... and the inability to see the big picture astounds me.... Probably has to do with this instant media and drive through world.

Some youth sure seems to forget there is a lot less footage of the greats of past compared to now, so you see more of the greats now than in the past.

I don't think anyone is hating on anyone, but young minds seem to stretch certain things into what they aren't because of lack of experience....

For the record. I was of those who thought today's players were by far better... until I LISTENED to the opposing arguments with an OPEN mind. And they were able to sway me. Why? Because I am rational and listen to both sides and acknowledge that I do not know everything and others may have viewpoints I haven't seen yet....

So while we sit here and accuse people of hating on shit, lets keep in mind the tunnel vision we can have while doing so....

I read the first paragraph. Not wasting my time with the rest.
Because you guys are saying that a whole generation of NBA players are less talented. And your basing that on nothing. Talent is something you're born with. You're saying that a certain group of people are born inferior to another group of people.

Sounds like you feel like you're hated for being a millennial. I get that - it's definitely something that happens with each new generation. But you're being hated on for not knowing when you don't know what you're talking about - not for being young. You have no idea how many arguments I've had with my mom wherein I've defended the millennial generation and its trappings/culture/technology. I'm sorry if you feel shunned, shamed and shat upon by older, wiser, and sometimes more close-minded generations.

But I can't say that that's what's happening here. We're all still Blazers/basketball fans today just like some of us were back in the 80s/90s - according to your theory those of us who think the past generations were better should hate basketball now. My friend's dad fits that type of person you're describing, but I don't think that many people here do. We all have just as much of a connection to today's players (could be argued we're more connected to them) as we had to past players. It doesn't make us feel better that our heroes from back then were better than they are now. And the fact that Sabonis is my favorite player ever doesn't diminish how much I like Dame and CJ.

Even if I replied to Denny's post, you'll dismiss it out of hand. But at least it's a semi-reasonable inquiry, unlike your OP.

Bird--Curry's a superior scorer and distributor, and also got all defense votes.
Wilkins--Harden is also a one-dimensional scorer, but is a much better ball-handler and passer
Magic--Lebron is his equal, if not his superior
Hakeem--Kawhi Leonard is every bit the two-way player that 2nd-year Hakeem was
Kareem--Hmm...let's put Durant here, just for the hell of it.
Barkley--again, 2nd year of his career. Blake Griffin is easily as good
Moncrief--Haven't said Westbrook yet. I guess he works here.
    English--Paul George
    Isiah--Chris Paul
    Moses--Boogie?
    Cummings--Dame
    Worthy--Klay
    McHale--Butler
    Paul Pressey--Draymond
Alvin Robertson--How about we'll slot Dwyane Wade in here?
Adrian Dantley--Let's go with Carmelo here.
    Buck Williams--Aldridge maybe?
    Dennis Johnson--Kyle Lowry

This year's list is definitely heavier on guards, but that's today's NBA. And I haven't even listed guys like Gasol (either), Deandre, Aldridge, Davis, Drummond. When you've got guys like Paul Pressey and Alvin Robertson in the top 20 in the league, I'm definitely less than impressed.
